The Freelancer is E for everyone, that doesn't mean that DiscoveryGC should.

I endorse this. In other news;

Freelancer Vanilla being rated T means nothing. That's what the little ESRB notice all of you click past to get to multiplayer means. With regard to swearing on the server, I'm in two minds about it. On one hand, most of you seem to have the unwavering and apparently very important desire to use certain words specifically because they are those words.

On the other hand, people will be offended by those words, and I'm in agreeance with Del when it comes to trusting the community to swear responsibly (purely within a roleplayed context). I think any word that was in the dialogue of the original game should be permitted, flat out. Any other word should be considered individually, and only allowed if it is non-discriminatory, not offensive (vulgarity is fine, actual offence is another matter) and is used responsibly.

In the mean time, I suggest everybody get over the fact you can't swear, and be creative with your in-character insults. Again, I recall being called a walking sausage by some Rheinlanders, and I promptly replied with something to do with strudel.

Get creative. Have fun. Get perspective.

I don't see what's so hard about talking the way you'd talk to any stranger in real life.

Little people like to get their pottymouths on here on Disco, but we all know their mommies are putting them in jammies and sending them off to bed at 9 o'clock, which makes it all the more sad. It's not at all an "adult" thing, and those that believe so will have a difficult adulthood cut out for them in real life - one that involves some bruising.

People's obsessions with small 4-5 letter words like "<FEMALE DOGE>" amazes me... It's like their lives are not complete, and Discovery is a boring piece of crap, if they are not allowed to use these little words...

Seriously guys, you have millions of other words to use in place of those 3-4 words you're not allowed to say. Go read a dictionary and learn some new words to use.

Your words, use them.

I have an issue with not being able to use any combination of those million other words as a euphemism for something else, no matter how thickly I coat it in sugar straight from the happiness and rainbows factory in candyland.

Maybe that has changed though and I just haven't noticed it.

You're telling me that some marine in an actual war situation saying the b-word has an incomplete life? I love how people seem to forget that some these insults (given an actual RP situation) are not what the person behind one screen wants to say to the other person behind the other screen, but merely how his/her character would act in a situation like that.

It's because it's ever apparent that those who wish to RP using those words are the types that'd wish they had the cojones to act like that in real life but knowing full well they'd get served a tasty knuckle sandwich if they did. So they use the safe distance and the anonymity of the internet as their outlet instead. A pitiful display, really.

Are you actually for real? I'd never go up to people inRL and just start smacking them, not because I couldn't, but because I have zero reason to. Disco is a roleplay environment, we choose to create characters who act different than ourselves. That's what makes it fun. I couldn't be a badass member of a space-navy in real life now, could I ?

It's the very reason why we play video games, not to get a boner about how I'm free to insult people in a game, but to get away from everyday-life.

Then why the incessant need to talk foul?

I surely don't have that need, and if I am roleplaying "baddie-type" characters, it's extremely easy for me to use other words and get the same message and image across.
