Otherwise, I think the faction in question's leadership should be mature enough to regulate it themselves.

If it becomes too uncontrollable or there's too much to clean, temporary locks can be issued (there have been precedent for such), but sure not a permanent one. There is no need to fill the forums with several feedback threads for one faction just to lock them all permanently every time a flame war occurs. Lock the one for a day or two so ppl cool down, and reopen again. Do this every time ppl lose control, and over time they will learn not to.

Voted "no" AFTER reading the question. Like how people should vote imo.

The point is that factions are not obligated to have a feedback thread. The feeback thread serves THE FACTION to makeit better, to improve it, make better interractions with other players. But when certain feedback thread looses its purpose I would say the faction should be of course be able to simply lock it/delete it/invisible it.

No rule says that a faction has to have a feedback thread.

Cannot really prevent a faction from requesting a lock on their feedback thread; when the faction doesn't have to have one to begin with.

Why not make it a rule that every official faction has to have a feedback thread?
I think everybody that wields some kind of influence and power should also be listening to what others think.

Factions aren't required to have them. If you force factions to have them, how do you force them to take any notice/part of them?

If said faction NEVER replies/posts in it's faction feedback, I really can't see the point. Some factions don't care what you (the community) think. Why?
They have their own agenda and it isn't yours.
There used to be sigs with comments like "Your RP is not my RP" in them. Well feedback threads are exactly that. An excuse to question a factions gameplay, be that RP or otherwise. Well your opinion may simply not be important to them. Anything from 'Your opinion has been noted, thankyou' to 'Get over it' etc is the likely response or none at all.
Gameplay doesn't HAVE to be justified when within the rules. As this community has developed, it's no longer relevant. The goalposts have been moved and feedback is no longer seen as relevant to many.

There is a flaw in the logic of this whole thing, which is that factions can request, but the staff has the final say. In my time as a member of the staff I had lots of people request locks, but it was only done if the staff member felt it was warranted.

The admins don't need to lock it on request, or they may lock it if there's forum rules being broken. The decision is entirely up to them and based on the forum rules. Factions aren't even required to make a feedback, don't make one if you don't like the feedback, but once one is made then just like any other thread that gets made it's exposed to the public and just cuz you don't like it doesn't mean it has to be closed or deleted or whatever.

I'm pretty sure that there was a rule to that effect at one point in time. Many people abuse faction feedback in various ways and this forces the mods and admins to intervene. It is a waste of the staff's time for the most part.

That isn't to say that faction feedback threads don't have benefits, they do; just that some factions get very little benefit out of them.

The Reavers for example. K'Hara are another. If you have honest feedback, you can always PM the faction leader. No one can force a faction to listen to your feedback.

If you force them to have a thread and they don't want one. They'll just ignore the thread.
