Just pointing out what's political and what not.
Talking about the maker of a fire arm that killed millions over the years is par to talking about war heroes of one country, but we can't talk about that on this forum since that would hurt other people.
Rip to him, long live the soviet propaganda.
For the uninformed-
Hugo Schmeiser´s StG 44:
Stolen with style nuff said.
Also even Kalashnikov admitted it few years ago. Same story with many many others american and russian "inventors" that used german war captive scientists and forced/paid (Russia/USA) them to work for them.

The mechanics of the StG 44 and the mechanics of the AK are so incredibly different. The StG uses a gas-operated piston-delayed roller-lock mechanism. The AK uses a gas-operated long-stroke-piston rotating-bolt mechanism.
They merely look visually similar at best. The design is similar because it's a simple, working design.
For an example of a gun that was actually outright stolen from the Germans, early prototypes of the M60 machine gun ('murica) were literally composed of MG42 and FG42 parts.
The AK 46 is the direct copy of StG 44 that got improved by the said Schmeiser guy in the times when he was held captive in Ural mountains. The rest is soviet propaganda.
Or you are believer and believe that young uneducated tankist sergant that fought in the war somehow managed to invent the said design as hobby while fighting the war and being wounded twice, while at the same time the same design was used by germans 3 years earlier.
Hugo Schmeisser on the other hand invented not only one single gun but whole bunch of them like most of the famous inventers.

History is written by the victors, the losers can enjoy GULag's company.
It's in Russian but you can easily orient through the photos. There are contained all the notorious exemplars of Mikhail's work.
R.I.P. great constructor and engineer. He lived a very long life and his assault rifle will outlive him no doubt. I think that along with M16 the AK assault rifles become a symbols of the era. AK is even placed on some state's flag, heh.
As for "stolen": the Ak-46 was a copy of StG, but it wasn't entered any serial productions because the ministry of defense didn't liked it and he had to redesign the rifle almost completely only following the over all concept (automatic rifle with magazine type ammo). The Ak-47 and further variations have nothing to do with StG.
Although his weapon is used by Terrorists around the world that was not their purpose. They were designed by a man who loved his country and wanted to aid it. That is a man I can respect and hope that wherever he is now, he is at peace and feels no pain or suffering.
