Sometimes services just suck up a lot of resources.

Welcome to the glory that is Microsoft products.

Retired, permanently.

Such as adobe update. And whatever other unneeded stuff you have running.

Win XP has a problem with them sometimes ending with it using 100% of your CPU(95% of the times its the sounds drivers)

Try using Combofix.Its a strong application that can only run once per download and uses the cmd to run.But while it runs do not do anything on your pc as combofix scans vital core system files.But I grantee you if there is something hiding it shall find it.

Will try these and post it here. i suspect a virus/worm/trojan. My gut tells me so... otherwise its just gas Big Grin

whats in your startup , click start > run then type msconfig then press enter, could be a lot in there you dont need on startup

so a scan with spybot search and destroy (1.6.2)

and "malwarebytes maleware remover"

http://www.safer-networking.org/mirrors16/

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/

both free and very good

no problem

now heres a way to keep it clean

load up notepad and copy past this in

@Echo off
"c:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SpybotSD.exe" /taskbarhide /autoupdate /autocheck /autofix /autoclose
defrag c: -f
shutdown /s

if c drive is not your main boot drive then replace the c: with your drive letter

then save as cleanup.bat very important is the .bat, not as .txt

the icon should look like a cog in a white box

now when ever you want to shut down for the night, just double click on it

itll run spybot, autoupdate spybot, scan then clean what ever it finds, then defrags your drive and then shuts down your comp

easy cleaning

works on xp

for win 7/vista

@Echo off
"c:\Program Files(x86)\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SpybotSD.exe" /taskbarhide /autoupdate /autocheck /autofix /autoclose
defrag c: -f
shutdown /s

perhaps this could be stickied for future people problems

nah spywaye/maleware that majority of virus checkers dont do a good job for, thats what spybot search and destroy and malwarebytes do well

Evanz gave the best programs to use.We use it sometimes with our clients as well.

AntiViruses does not really check in detail spyware and malware.But they jump on the pc just by simply going on the web and doing some research(Spybots Teatimer can help prevent that).But seems this thread has been resolved
