Maybe go into specifics?
I feel a guide instructing people how to avoid becoming a power trading faction, or a bunch of lolwut pirates or navy captains could be useful.

I was considering going into specifics, but that would seem as if we want to place a leash or a noose around the necks of any new faction.

Let them build it and fail spectacularly their way.

Since I'm on my networks pair and have nothing to do, I'll post the things I disagree(or strongly agree) with.

Quote:Any new group is crap until proven otherwise.
Some new groups are good from the beginning. To not go long, take VWA or VR, for example. Current [HF] attempt can serve as another one.

Quote:One of the most offensive mistakes a new faction leader can make is forgetting that it is the members of the faction, who give the group their face and name.
Much agree, very true. Faction belongs to it's members, not leader.

Quote:Being able to offer a multitude of ingame actitivties will attract a lot of potential faction members, but you must not split it up too much.
Having many activities to offer is good. If one source is exhausted, yo can always switch to another one.

Quote: but these ranks do not really serve any purpose other than provide minimal in-faction competition between faction members. But in the end most factions do not look after ranking and there is no way to unseat high-ranked members when they go lazy. Most people know this when they join, so in the end the ranking system is just a gimmic, which in most cases are not needed.
The ranks are for ship restrictions. And sometimes for deciding, who's taking command in raid. There're ways to unseat high-ranked members, just most won't do this, cause said members maybe lazy, but they're also VERY experienced.

Quote:One of the more foolish things you can do is make yourself a target because of a certain member of the community joining your faction.
Don't invite said member into your faction. Quite simple. Should I remind you, that you've not accepted Freeroamer into Torpedoes?

Quote:And still, time and again there are people willing to restart these abandoned or dead projects out of spite and then act surprised and angry, when it all falls apart again. Some IDs are just not meant to be played as a faction. Some factions, on the other hand, tend to be overshadowed by more successful ones.
Yet taking free-from-faction ID is your best chance to make good and fitting official faction.

~Not saying they are. Just that the general view on any new group which nobody knows about is "Oh god dammit, not another one."

~Dunno, I find it odd that you'd want to restrict something via rank. If you think the player is too ''new'' to fly a ship class of sorts, just tell them.

~Yes, but you can't possibly expect to know everything about every single faction member out there.

Then you'll have another question, "when I'll be worthy to fly GIANT WARMACHINE OF DOOM?" Exactly as answer you can point at appropriate rank and it's requirements.

IMHO, one shouldn't fly capships before he'll become good with snubs. Otherwise CAPSPAM.

Isn't it up to the player to figure out what they want to fly, rather what people expect them to fly because of something that has happened in the past? I am not saying we need to place every single nublet in a dread, but you must fly every single ship class to find one you have the most fun with.

Just a thought, if the person is good with snubs, then why does he need to fly a cap !! It should be for those who are decent with caps and have proven themselves in scenarios.

Seriously, Disco needs to just get over this stigma about caps. Just because people don't know how to fly them does not mean everyone who does fly should be viewed as a lesser being or that they somehow contribute less to the community.

I, for example, don't fly snubs because I simply don't have the reaction time to play them. Nope, too fking bad, I am worthless then, since the only thing I can possibly fly is a cap. Might as well go hang myself then.
