I've been working on the Wiki as a side-project. I haven't been putting that much time into it lately, however I did finish up a program that took the infocard.dll data, and splits the bulk of data into seperate files for each entity.

The current problem is that each of them may or may not be relevant information for the Wiki, which would require going in by hand and picking out things which are and are not important that needs to be uploaded.

Removing the wrappings and adding on Wiki wrappings is another step. - Although that isn't too difficult, sadly it would take some sort of user work as well. I may know my way around the programming language, sadly i'm not a wizard like some people. It's doable, it merely will take some time.

There used to be an easier way of doing this, however the person who made the scripts for it we haven't been able to reach. His system made things very, very easy for updating the Wiki, although the data is for .86, not .87 which is a slight problem.

I agree...It is kinda a drag that the wiki's so outta date. There's been numerous times I pulled up an out of date page & went "oh, eff y'all you effin' effs" but that's just my knee-jerk inner monologue talkin', but beyond that, I can understand overall why I shouldn't count on it for info....It's not that I'm disappointed that a previously useful tool isn't maintained to the standard I'm accustomed to at a time when I need it again, it's just that I'm not willing to contribute to updating it myself, & therefore, not really qualified to complain about it not being updated to my satisfaction when I saw fit to return to officially eff' around again on the server after a long absence

It's out of date yes, I've been updating the Coalition pages slowly myself. Some parts of the Wiki are horribly out of date but others ARE up to date, it all depends on who is updating it and what knowledge they have. Sad

As a side-note, I'll share a link to the old system that I mentioned above.

The holy grail of Wiki updating

Sadly the above link runs off a script which isn't on the website. I've attempted to rip the website and look through the scripts, although I couldn't grab anything usable from it with hopes to replicate the functions it does.

If anyone can get in contact with the owner, we may be able to get the files updated with .87 stuff, although my emails haven't been replied to. I have a feeling the address he put up publicly he doesn't check.

Wiki is a huge undertaking to update manually, though with a few people who each focus on a certain part of wiki updating, the communities, and factions help would still be needed.

To update the Wiki, we'd need information on every faction, ship, system, base, commodity and anything you can think of that may have changed.

I call forth the Great Conrad and the Knights of the Wiki Updaters!

well, this is him: cshake.deviantart.com I'm sure you noticed that Conrad, but hey maybe someone knows him from there. Or is interested in finding a so called "Chris Shake" which may be an alias. Regardless, best wishes. I think the Angels were working on something regarding the wiki, or their info could at least be converted into wiki stuff. Regarding the hardpoints and such. Lots of data to get though.

The page I linked does look rather inactive, but hey, worth a shot.

Things piled up and getting wiki into 'up to date' status is a big deal game now. So guess it would be easier to destroy the wiki and write it as a new right away - almost same as adding countless fixes.

It's not a "big deal game now", it's always been a big deal and just as much work to do for every new release of the mod. v4.87 is no exception. Every single release of a new version implies that all pages have to be verified and/or updated, and that's not something that's very fun to do by hand in the long run; most people get tired of it after a few dozen pages, and even the most dedicated editors get tired after a few mod versions. This becomes even less rewarding when any work you do may be out of date in a few months with the current update rate, which is further complicated by the lack of a working content generator for v4.87. And it won't fix itself without people updating it, which is why it's in the state that it is right now.

We're not wizards, and there is no magic "update Wiki" button, unfortunately. Can't really do much but apologize for that. I'd of course love to see it up-to-date again too, but I've sadly not got the motivation, time nor know-how for creating a content generator, and I've really not got any of those for attempting to keep up with the current updates by hand. The entire system has pretty much been left far behind by the mod's new frequent updates; it simply doesn't work very well with such small intervals between each new mod version, and I can't say that I see any easy fix for it. Not yet, anyhow.

The problem is that even some in-game infocards are outdated. For example the Loire Ice Field's infocard states that there are two holes in the field, one leading to Dauphine, the other to Lyonnais, while there is only one actually, leading to Auvergne.

If you've got a script that can extract the information, I'd be willing to put in the effort to automate the reformatting/interlinking/etc.

I can haz source?

Then there literally could be an "update Wiki" button, but as pointed out by Thyrzul it will only be as up-to-date as the infocards themselves are.
