Deciding on new graphics card

A decent set of ram and motherboard will always help the gfx card, make sure at least 4 or 8 gig, fast ram, and good quad core

To Alley:
I sold the liquid cooler, the stock cooler and all the fans on the case make it so I really dont need a cooler (keeps it within 40-55C max even during heavy gameplay; idles between 28C and 31C tops)
The screens were just ones we have at work Not really going for high end monitors til my tax refund comes.
I'm also well aware the PSU is overkill, I got the 1000w if I ever needed more power in the future--If you havent noticed I also maxed out the RAM (32GB DDR3 1600mhz) which is definitely overkill as well mwahahha

I'm not familiar with that brand, I'd kind of like to stick with one that I know. Looks like a pretty nice GPU you have though!
To Evanz:
I've had this PSU for a while now, I've never ran into any issues w/ power consumption or any issues powering internal hardware with it at all luckily

Thats pretty much my dilemma, the 970 would really do everything I want it to as the 980 would, the price difference is what I'm stuck on. I'm primarily looking to upgrade so I can play Star Citizen smoothly (Struggles slightly with my current 650)
Back to Evanz again:
I have 32GB DDR3 RAM (seen here ), runs perfectly with everything I need it for, my main bottle neck seems to be the GPU at this point.

I appreciate all the input people, I'm starting to lean towards the 970 more I'd be glad to discuss the setup more if you guys have any more questions or comments.

Like the R9 270 or the 8970, I mean.

Ended up buying this since the original 970 is out of stock (little better clock speed and a free game, in my case Far Cry 4) Here

To be honest I am sure a 760 would've sufficed for a lot of your needs. The 970 though slaps AMD's R9 290 in the face according to Anandtech.

A co-worker mentioned that as well, but I figured I would upgrade to the 900 series of some form. Now that I reviewed the specs on that AMD r9 290 I wish EVGA would've incorporated 512-bit memory interface with this line of graphics cards, but this is still quite a jump from my previous EVGA Superclocked 650. I'll post results when I get the card Friday (testing with Star Citizen )

Well, here's this thing:

You can run BF4 on maybe even high with the 650.
Far Cry 4 is more than playable at decent settings with a 650.
CoD Advanced Warfare too.

Idk, it was also worth mentioning the processor used in those cases was a Core 2 Quad.
