Its probably messed up becuase they did it online (an online gif animator) or more proberbily (yea its a word:)) The files original format wasn't a .gif best thing is if you have the original .PSD's or gimpfiles what ever convert them into .gifs in that program then use a real animating program.

No they were done in Photoshop

They didn't because exporting from .png to .gif adds some stupid outline for some reason
