Guys, this isn't a thread for discussing the 'restricting capships to certain areas' issue. Its a balance thread. Take the off-topic to a new thread.
Also Mjolner, your right. I didn't test Beta. Because I think using the current balance and changing it in this way would work better. Just because you already have an idea, doesn't mean I can't think of something different.
an average of 1/50 players online plays ( and that is plays - not logs on situational ) - usually its more non-factionized players that "play" battleships and more factionized players that log on battleships situationally ( meaning when an attack is immediete )
( i have monitored the last 3-4 months - looking for how many battleships are around compared to the players online at usually the prime time )
other than that.... many stats are changed in the next version - battleships won t have have universal "good against everything" weapons anymore, but need to specialized. - a lot of responsibility to choose weaponry. - things ARE balanced right now ( more than that even ) and they will still be balanced then. - ( if you like the majority of players to fly tiny fighters - disco is what you want right now )
* i have no kept track on smaller vessels than battleships.... so what i said only refers to battleships, not to cruisers or gunboats - which are much more common.
I like these ideas Dab...but I am a VHF whore to my own detriment so I might be a bit biased.
Perhaps a little more on the shield regen rate...that is really low...and i think it should take at least a few more VHFs (average players) to take down a battleship. Caps need to retain their fearsomeness so you should be encouraged to get as many of your fighters ace buddies on to help you as you can.
I completely agree with Scorn's statement. However , I think that people who enjoy the RP of a larger ship are numbered , compared to the people who like to fly generic ships like the VHF / Bomber. Capitals will not be made what they should be , not because it's wrong to make them strong and hard to destroy , but because the majority of people on the server will not like that and in such cases the majority wins.
Anyway , this threat is meaningless , because Jinx already told us that said balance was created. Hearing about this , speciliazations of capital ship , makes me think that they are again nerfed in some way. This time it's probly the " if I want to fight this , I need this/this and this. If not I can't atack fighters/bombers , only other caps and reverese".

Many of the Indies flying caps do so because they are indies, they don't have a clan that can jump someone with superior numbers any time a pvp fight starts like clans do.
What is so wrong with specialization...from my experience that make most games more fun..
My VHFs are specialize too ya know...I have one that is great at taking out GBs...another for fighters...and another that can do both effectively with a wingman...sheesh...forget variety i guess huh?

Actually, I see a lot of indies forming groups. Most of the groups i see online are indies. This is a multiplayer game...if ya wanna play by yourself...Open SP is wonderful

You, sir, are an idiot and have never been in Alpha or Gamma hence. You should see the roving bands of non-faction players attacking other non-faction players - guess what - in large groups! And yet here you go basically telling them in their face that they can't organise. Your argument fails at the very beginning, and so does your attempt to troll yet again.

Actually I see factions in groups far more often for pvp, but you miss the point, how is a cap ship supposed to assure he has fighter escorts wherever he goes? I'm often alone in systems, and unless I want to play only in NY or in Sig 13 then it's pretty difficult to find a couple merc or friendly fighters around.
Point is that there is no point in answering your question since your question is based on a faulty observation that indies don't group...I repeat...indies group all the time...play open sp if you wanna fly alone all the time.
