FL MOD(EL)MAKING: TOOLS, RESOURCES, TUTORIALS AND MY SHIPS (OLD)

I am on discord: Roal-Yr#5994, I don't log on forum more than a few times a year.

I am not making ships for FL anymore, I am making my own space game instead:

If you want to effectively kill disco, this is a great idea.

The current dev team is trying to fix the trash implemented by the 2011-2013 dev team. Unfortunately it is no easy task when understaffed and facing people crying 24/7 instead of helping. We could have a patch out every two week with either a new ship, system modifications related to recent events or whatever but the fact there is not enough people willing (and capable and not jerks) to do the necessary edits render this impossible.

And yeah I know the dev team can be blamed as well, I've experienced first hand the uselessness of some people.

I would like to add to this that if we push out a patch every two weeks with a few minor things in it, we also get bombarded by a thousand different people screaming about why their content wasn't included IMMEDIATELY. Personally I let that run right off my back, it doesn't bother me. But not everyone is as capable of turning themselves to stone.

Surely though if you release changelogs and give dates on when certain pieces of content will be added, people won't get as flustered?

There are good points on both side of the fence, so it's a bit hard to argue with either one of them, however, a bit of light on what is in the making, an "In Development" section on the forums would probably calm people down a bit, as they would see that things are being made and know what to expect.
I'm not saying devs should tell every small part of the lore changes, cause that would spoil much, but some technical stuff, maybe some points about what content is planned to be added in ( stations, ships, whatever ) and a few "guidelines" of what's comming ... I don't know, I'm just throwing my ideas here.

While on the other hand we have content "pending" for almost half a year, and impossibility to get responsible dev answering questions regarding it.

I'm quite in the middle. While we all think that rerolling would do something good, it makes ALL the actions made by various factions, players, devs void. And I don't t think that would be encouraging for them, if they realize the 2-3 years of their time were wasted. Six months is enough time of put effort into game anyway. On the other hand, it would prove itself a new challenge to rewrite things... but then, it might confuse newcomers, as they were told about one thing and they see the entirely different universe.

Although - and that's purely my private opinion because I like roleplay of the Exiles - current Kusari state makes little sense, as we turned a 800 years old feudal society into a Republic overnight - yet that alone would work somehow. The biggest illogical fault of the current Kusari is to remove the Imperial figure (as it doesn't make any sociopolitical state, if you want to calm down former subjects). No matter how KNF would be strong - and it is in a pretty weakened state - the civilians would be pretty upset about the decision, especially in pro-Samura/pro-FA colonies.

Pretty much this. When we lost forum stuff for two months after server crash, it hit motivation of lot of people hard and I know some of them were even on the edge of quitting. Sure, those who barely write anything in forum RP section probably won´t care much, but those who put their time and effort in creating RP will hardly appreciate all their work going down the toilet (because you are making precedent and why create anything when you never know when someone will come with idea of re-rolling again). Especially when things can be solved by simply making changes towards desired state, instead of re-rolling.

On a ragebreak. Or ragequit. Time will tell.

I can add up one thing, since Kusari was my home for a time and that would be the finest example here:

Republic was introduced and it's safe to assume that at least half of Kusari population is, actively or in a passive way, against new order in Kusari. That gives a new area of roleplay exploration, for example Samura being more and more against the Republic (they are more powerful than Kishiro in sense of owned colonies and overall market). While Kishiro is now a number one in Kusari due to coup, Shikoku, Kyushu and Hokkaido are pro-Samuran regions, while Kishiro has popularity in Honshu and New Tokyo, only. And Republican government is written to be quite weak.

In the end, given extensive roleplay would be used, sooner or later would return to status quo, with changes here and there (remember GC and Dragons).

Rerolling stuff indeed would make people upset . However there are more than one way to raise activity of certain factions , Bretonia for example , is active cooperation wise. However their trade routes contain zero to little risk , since none of the pirates bother going after cruise traders , base campers etc. Giving Coorperate factions longer and more risky routes may increase the activity .

Also I had this little trick tested in Mount & Blade ;
Most RP maps contain 5-6 castles , with people in each. Therefore it prevents big battles , larger RP environments , so i had a map idea where there were no castles and 2 villages , that increased the RP activity dramatically , with less players than other servers.

Me thinks , some small and inactive factions could be removed , if NOT removed , could be merged with their allies etc.
