I thought mounting large blue probelights was enough for them to feel "unique". Now it will become bit more complicated.

Either way, this looks interesting.

The reward ship will be a ready pre-built one that will be transferred to your account. Due to the fact that any sort of change (including namechange or pimpship) would undo the changes - everything will be locked down. Obviously, SRP IDs also reference the exact name of the ship to make it work - so the name is locked as well.

But let us not get too ahead of ourselves. Let's see if simple visual modifications are interesting enough and go from there.

Something that might or might not be a thing someday.
Right now all of the ''recepies'' aka, the stuff you can create on the base, is hardcoded.

Perhaps in the future we will be able to implement more stuff that can be added as materials on the fly - that only needs a server restart to get in.
Maybe.
Soon.

But we would still be able to say change the weapons that are equipped or the shield type, correct? I think that's what you meant, but I just wanna be sure.

I think that will depend on the ship at hand. Some of these ships will have an interesting choice of guns, so changing them would be defeating the purpose.
However the shield -yeah.

Basically since it is done manually, I will double check with the player regarding their choice in shield type and IFF.
Again, the details can be worked out after a few test tries.

Well, just make sure that you talked to balance devs and not just throwing OP-ship in game.

Which is why for now it is going to be mostly visuals and rare guns.
