Had the same problem this morning with no remains dropping, thought I'm just shooting the wrong ones in the wrong area as I'm totally new to this but trying to get some cloak materials.

The thing with fighter NPCs is they only drop remains when they are the high tier ones aka Lvl 19.
All below that drop nothing.
