Hmmmm... that's a thought. Rather than a whole new engine, make it a bolt-on supercharger that fills the 'armor' equipment slot and takes up 40 cargo. This way you can still choose your engine color.

Note that originally, when @Cannon was still around, it was promised that jump-drives and cloaks would have a small (less than 1%) chance to be destroyed when the ship they were mounted on died, so there would always be an incentive to produce more, and they would be more of a moneysink. In fact, PoBs were added primarily as a moneysink, because it was determined that Disco wouldn't last without one. The JDs and cloaks getting destroyed on death feature, however, was never implemented (for reasons I'm unaware of, perhaps it was buggy or just wasn't coded in the first place).

It seems some of those predictions weren't entirely wrong, huh?
