Not to burst your bubble there Nom but having quicker decay rates wouldn't benefit freighters, the paltry 20 seconds between trade lanes isn't going to be cut down by an extra 2 seconds of cruise.

I've flown a freighter from day one of joining Disco (not the same one obviously but I've always had one) and I can tell you straight, the freighter doesn't need an overhaul, it needs a damn purpose but forcing the entire range into some half-baked combat role is absurd. This is a line built around cargo, from the very name to their original purpose and design.
If the dev team don't want to go that route then I'd respectfully ask that your efforts go elsewhere.

Freighters are a spot on stepping stone of a ship, i would say they need nothing.
Overhaul the world around them a little sounds a better job for you lads.

I would like to suggest that Freighters be stripped of their forward gun hardpoints. Rather, I would suggest that Freighters should only be able to mount turrets. (And their turret arcs be modified to cover all angles of the ship.)

I would also suggest that all freighters recieve a countermeasure hardpoint if they do not have one.

Only certain freighters should also be able to mount cloaking devices. Such as the Grizzly, Voyager, Correo, and Bactrian due to their special roles. The Correo and Bactrian should recieve the ability to mount a bomber torpedo as well as a crise disruptor. The Grizzly should be given dual minelayers and the ability to mount a battleship scanner with no energy penalty. They Voyager should lose its Torpedo hardpoint and gain the ability to mount a Jumpdrive.

Freighter hold size should be increased so they fall somewhere between 400 and 750 units.

Just my thoughts.

I second this. If I had to choose between fighting a cap8 turret steering Camara vs fighting a battleship with a dual .85 nova bomber (protip for those that don't know, .85 novas didn't track against battleships), I would take the bomber any day of the week. It's stupid.

So, how about we make Freighters actually something of an auxiliary vessel for snub fights? They are already pretty well at just warding off attackers while the one attacking can break off at any time and he wouldn't die because most freighters don't pursue or some don't have a CD. If they could only mount turrets (maybe even only some special turrets for freighters) and had their core regen buffed a bit, they could make for cover when a teammate is getting focused. Frankly, the freighter wouldn't work too many wonders when it's focused by many snubs, but maybe something else can be arranged to make them a bit more viable than a gunboat in such situations because the freighters are smaller.

The issue is that they are also, at least in theory, trade ships. I disagree that they shouldn't be able to defend themselves, because it would be senseless in a dystopian future like in fl to leave the safety of a planet or installation without a good deal of firepower. Freighters aren't supposed to need escorts. Transports, on the other hand, are large and slow, and therefore need escorts. Thus a combat buff for freighters would also make sense in that regard. However, to do justice to the trade aspect, they would need to be given something that makes their usage worth it. There is no reason not to use a transport instead of a freighter, which is the key problem.

Not sure. The Camara might need a size incrase/change (its a tube with few features. Where is the cockpit?)
The Grizzly was made to kill as the form of Liberty SHF.

Maybe just give them a few commodities that only freighters/fighters can pick up (as they are the only ships that can dock on the solar)

I agree that the Camara needs a size change. I was trying to shoot one with a gunboat but it's literally impossible to hit if the person knows even a little bit about dodging.

My modest opinion is if want to change it, need to choose if ships will move in combat mode, as snub aux, or move to transportation mode.
If goes to PvP, maybe made them like smaller gb's.
If goes to transport direction, they should be made plus faster than transports, i thinks so faster only LF could catch them, so makes sense you use them instead big, slow transports on dangerous áreas. Those were my 2 cents on that.
