liberty decided to use egyptian dieties as the codenames for their shipbuilding projects in alaska - the osiris reconnaissance battleship and the anubis advanced strike fighter. These were stolen by Orillion when he broke off from liberty in an attempt to save it from the impending nomad threat, and ever since then the order's shiplines have used those names.
Funny thing is, despite all the egyptian themes for ships, stations, etc... the home planet is toledo, named after a city in spain...
I think the freelancer devs failed their geography/history classes =P
Eh, Jinx, If your around, could you maybe make a render comparing the Zoner Juggernaut with a liberty drednaught or some other battleship your mouse clicks on first...

Don't think a comparison is required, since the Zoner Juggie -will- be the biggest ship in the mod, if I recall well.
well - lets put it that way... a liberty dreadnought can comfortably dock inside a juggernaut - along with at least 3 more of its kind.
the point is - zoners don t fight in those t hings.... they live in them... thats why it has 2 biodomes, too ( watch out for corsairs that attempt to unscrew them in midflight! )
but no - i don t have a comparison image at the moment. - its really a lot bigger - but in game... you won t be able to compare them anyway. - whenever a liberty DN and a zoner juggernaut meet... at least one of them is definitely in the wrong place!

I'm not sure about the origin of the Osiris's name, but the name of the Anubis certainly wasn't given to it by Liberty. The Anubis was actually an Order innovation. It's a mash of different technology that the Order has stolen from around Sirius, not just from Liberty. I think they just decided to keep the same naming scheme.

you sure about that? I was always under the impression that the anubis fighters were built along with the original osiris at juneau shipyards, as the next line of liberty combat vessels.

Nope. I just went through SP again last week, and I remember seeing something either in my scans of the ships or the rumors that the Order ships appear to be composed of parts of all kinds of ships, although they appear to use the Executioner as the base model.
