I've killed of a lot of my char's parents, it's good motivation for them to do something extreme. I have a great relationship with my parents BTW. I'm trying to do less of the dead parents though, as it is soo common. Sometimes I just skip the whole childhood, or only cover it briefly.

One of my characters killed his own father, that any better?

I think the reason is because most people are teenagers, the whole Parent Kid relationship goes down the drain from there most of the time : I suspect this is just a way of the Children getting back...

on a more serious note, I think you are right about the reason for this is that most of the uses in here are still kids. but its rather like tazuras said. Many of them are still bound to their parents pretty strong, thus having their parents dead is used as the strongest motivation factor for their chars. (vengeance, becoming sociopaths, getting recruited by pirates, joining the military etc.etc.)

I rarely see anyone getting her husband or his wife killed ...

Dont say that! You're gonna start a new trend.

Doc HAD parents but thanks to re-incarnation, cryogenics and hibernation time, his folks are long deceased. His mother died of tuberculosis and his father of natural causes.

All of my character's parents are still alive. With the exception of Sylpheed's mom, who died at the age of 73 of a heart attack. These things happen and it's not even a remote reason for Sylpheed being as nuts as he is.

Oh and Syn's parents are also dead, he forced them to eat each parts of other and then killed them. But he's simply not normal, in any way shape or form.

Saint Del is considered a holy healer of diseases of children, but also as a protector of cattle.

With the Nomad war around and all the fighting every day it is very probable that someone's parents died.
And if you are piloting a cap vessel you are supposed to be some mature character anyway.
(Means that your parents are dead anyway - at least by natural cause)

Now boys and girls: You don't kill your parents! Thats bad! Killing parents is bad! alright? stop doing it! its bad!

my chars killed bilion NPCs... if half of them were parents... well:(If you look outside your ship you will see everywhere death. FL is mad in that case. I think average age of all pilots in sirius cant be higher than 30 and average survivability max. few moths. In fact I doub anyone with pilot license have or is having to have kids which brings me into interesting idea.... everybody in FL flying in space is clone with chip implanted into brain. Your "person" is realtime transmited into storage hub and once you die, they create new clone and instal you into new body:).... OH GOD DAMN IT! WE ALL ARE CYLONS!

Not necessarily, in terms of the death due to natural causes, go check out the average lifespan thread. Also if you are a cap commander for a house you might be able to get preferential treatment for your parents.
