' Wrote:According to FLSTAT discovery has 2,757 active players. 10,554 in total.

And, I can guarantee 90% of the 2757 active players are as excited about 4.85 as I am. That means (does the math) 2481 players battling over 200 slots.

Assuming 200 slots are filled, that leaves 2281 left on the outside. That means I'm in competition with 2280 people across the world for the next slot on the server that opens up.

Time Zones. So divide 2757 by 24 time zones (one per hour of the day) and you've got how many people you could be battling with.

Of course, any method is inaccurate, as there are people who stay up late and the adjacent time zones and whatnot aren't too far off.

**** it. You're dealing with at least 400 players at any given time right now.

It's not the hardware, it's cause of the FLServer program which is antique and doesn't support multi-threading, that is, doesn't support multiple CPU cores.

I thought the server program had been edited to provide multi-threading, thought i read that somewhere...

The thing is, the server software just can't be overclocked more. It just can't. This is it. It's 200, or the original 16. Pick one.

Wow, you guys had trouble? I just double clicked on Disco once with 198 on, and got in straight away.

I think I should have stayed on.

Recoding that server from the reverse engineering on packets send would help much more;)

FLServer is hacked to use a second core but it doesn't do it very well. FlServer was never much cop to begin with and so the fact it's also 6 years old hasn't helped it much. The current multiplayer patch is clocked as high as it can go without making the server ridiculously unstable.

The current hardware is more than optimal for what we're doing with it. It's in fact far too good. It's the software that let's us down. Cannon has wirttena new character editor which is far more efficient and a lot less prone to hissy fits than IFSO, there is continual development on our anti-cheat software, increasing the efficiency, the only thing letting us down is the botch job that microsoft made of FLServer. Until someone can write us a new program that does the job better the server is stuck as it is stuck.
