You say it is a Beta.
Why shall we not test the roleplay too?
Your activity, cooperation, and initiative is great. I don't fault anyone for that. If you're helping other players, that's great, too.
I do get concerned, though, when within a couple of days of the release, players are presenting their chars as leadership members, or groups of players are basically forcing existing factions into having to negotiate, as though the first group actually represented Gallic (Council) faction leadership.
Again, it just seems to me (one person's perspective) that there's been less "Discovery" of Gallia and more powergaming.
Well first of all, until there are official Council factions, noone can make diplomatic deals concerning anything major.
I mean, it is history in the making, and noone can do at their will yet.
Give it some time.. There'll be a time for diplomatic deals of major impact.
And speaking as a member of the "council faction that's trying to powerplay", I think my statement, which agrees with the general consensus, makes it clear that noone is trying to dictate things yet. And noone is telling anyone how the RP will go on yet.
Once there's a system of official Gallian factions, then things can happen. Be it just one council faction, or multiples merging, or multiples sharing power.
My view on the matter..

' Wrote:I have no problem with this - by all means, explore, set up chars and ships, whatever. But some have presented themselves as Council leadership or have been demanding that other factions deal with them as though they represented the Council policymakers. I think that's just a tad premature.
Step back and see who all wants to be involved; then make some decisions together.
I agree with this. I understand the Council wants to communicate with the other Houses, however, we have to remember, how will they do this? They have to build an infrastructure to send messages to Kusari before they can talk to them, or send ships through the hostile Outcasts. It'll be a while before anything official can happen.
If anyone, they've met the Outcasts (Who declared hostilities), the IMG, and maybe the BMM (Tau-23 is close). This means, unless the IMG decide to make a decision to sell Council data, that the only people who should know anything about Gallia is the Outcasts, IMG, and maybe Bretonia, who have made the correct responses to it.

Fletcher, this strikes me as nothing short of avoidance of RP. As I stated above, Bretonia is currently the only house which should know about Gallia aside from IMG rumors, which aren't reliable, and might not even be believed. Run with the Roleplay instead of shunning it...
[8:32:45 PM] Dusty Lens: Oh no, let me get that. Hello? Oh it's my grandma. She says to be roleplay.
[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.
' Wrote:I believe this was a reaction to the BAF's policy making in Orkney. Someone had to advocate the rights of The Council, are we not allowed to? If no player can represent the council in terms of poicy I think no players should be able to make policies that affect the council, no matter their faction.
Bretonian leaders acted prematurely, in my opinion, and I've said so to them in a reasonable discussion. Yet, surely you know that Gallia isn't going to get closed off because of the Orkney situation, don't you? Besides, as I understand it, BAF was re-acting to Council chars, not acting first.
' Wrote:Oh and one more thing.
Do you except EVERYONE in Gallia to fly around as Independants untill the eventual release of the core systems? (Which will take god knows how long)
Well...given that factions aren't allowed until then...yes.
Play as unofficial RP groups all you want, but you can't claim to set policy for the NPC Council.
I believe you'll find that any major decisions regarding Council RP withh atleast have to go through Igiss. Therefore suddenly saying you're the high-ups in the Council and can make decisions for it ... well, it's a bad move.
Quote:I mean, good grief, to my knowledge, we haven't even RP'd the discovery of Gallia yet. The version came online Sunday, and immediately we have working agreements between houses. No "What? There's another house? There are more survivors? Wait, they want to conquer us but there's an entity standing in the way of that?" Nothing. We have been oorp as a body, I think, in skipping over all that and automatically assuming a lot of prior knowledge. The entire landscape of Sirius has changed literally overnight, and it's as though we skipped over entirely the whole "first contact" phase.
Since you mentioned the Reunion Treaty.... That came about after BAF discovered a new, unknown base in that system. We roleplayed the whole first-encounter crap you say we skipped and will do the same as other house groups come. Frankly, the BAF were the first to technically RP the encounter of the New House, Everyone else simply cruised on by into Languedoc.
If its too soon for RP with Gallia. Admins should have put a big fat notice saying: DO NOT ROLEPLAY on the Mod.
Quote:Part of that is the behavior by some of portraying themselves in leadership positions, particularly the Council. Whether it's cruisers in Orkney demanding attention, or players on the forums acting as Council leadership, it seems to me that this is all too much, too fast.
When LN was first made, Someone had to portray themself in a leadership position.
When KNF was first made, Someone had to portray themself in a leadership position.
When BAF was first made, Someone had to portray themself in a leadership position.
I think that points quite clear.... For their to even be RP there has to be something to RP with.
People want to make indie Council? Go ahead, I planned my group as the Northern Council for a reason, so that it wasnt an All-Around Council faction claiming control over all Council actions. No, instead we are a section of Council, reinforcing actions in Lorraine from Champagne in addition to aiding Council members elsewhere.
Un-Official factions are allowed, Official Factions are not.
The main reason for this deal with the BAF was because they came to us and we wanted rid of the blockade, as is perfectly in line with what we know of the Council RP. When we want people to come to Gallia, a Blockade is a direct counter to that.
If we cannot argue on the cause of the Council, then what would be Council do for the months that it will be with this blockade still up? It just sits quiet and twiddles it's thumbs while their entire cause of breaking the isolation of Gallia is being destroyed?

I sounded like an ass yes, my method for doing this is not. I shall simply not go there.

I don't believe I complained about RP in Gallia. I simply asked whether it might not be better to give folks a chance to get their bearings with it before suddenly claiming to represent - as a group - one of its major NPC entities.
LN, KNF, BAF were all official factions available for roleplay as such. The Council is not, and the Admins have made that clear.
