Yup, I have been pondering that myself. Only thing I can think of is if shields were switchable whilst in space instead of just stations. Though I think maybe the omnipotent FLhook my may have a workaround to bypass them altogether. Not sure though.

Dashiell, you have a good point about the abuse bit but....People can do that with the current repair ship.
Get a dread, get 5 repair ships cruising around just outside of the fight, only cruising by the dread to trade regens.
20k regens, plus what the dread already had...
No engagement = No flee rule

Best option anyone has, is if they see a repair ship aiding their target, that they destroy it so that they can continue with the previous target.
Take other games for example.... fantasy MMORPGs that have a Heavy Tank and a Healer. Who do you take out first? The Tank, leaving the healer to keep him alive. Or the Healer, leaving nothing to keep the tank alive.

conclusion: get us that repairship with a high tech Nano-Cannon (sounds nice:P) and let`s have a laugh.
It will repair the components of the ship e.g. the wing and tail or whatever. On the original SP game you are able to blow off parts of the ship, this is due to any shots being landed on those parts of the ship. The other part of the ship is the solid part, the part that takes the majority of the hull damage and eventually explodes. Now we've already established that any negative damage on a hull will cause that ship to explode as it's pretty much 100% damage dealt.
More to the point, most of the ships in discovery are one solid piece. No blow-off-able bits. So basicaly, try and repair a battlestar and you've suddenly turned it into a fireworks display.
Guys, we are not including features just because they are present in Flak and Hamburg City. If this mod lived on borrowing inspiring additions from other mods, it would've died years ago. It's not our cup of tea.
Our ships were balanced for using bots/bats for repair only. Even if this is possible (definitely need hardcoded modifications though), I'm not going to include this.
