By USSR friendly, I mean government friendly, like the eastern bloc in the cold war.

I voted no, and I'll put the caveat in here.

Technically, I suppose they COULD build a sleeper ship or three.

But as Blunt has so aptly put it - they WERE the Coalition, so they've won. The only reason they would try to build a sleeper ship would be to attempt to conquer their enemies somewhere else.

That would then pose the question as to whether or not the F-T-L communication system that exists now in Freelancer also existed then, or if this was something that was invented afterwards. The same would also apply with the jump gate technology. It's obviously something that was invented by scientists in Sirius (Texas Incident, anyone?) - but that doesn't also mean that it couldn't have also been independantly invented back on Sol.

Presuming, of course, that Sol was still there, and not destroyed as in the unofficial storyline. Because that unofficial line still has one minor plot hole in it - or should I say jump hole? How would the Nomads have been able to come in without either a jumpgate or a jumphole?

I actually see Sol system in a state of guerilla warfare for a while afterwards - probably quite a number of years. Then the Coalition consolidated everything, and who knows? That could be the Discovery 6.0 mod - the new jump hole is discovered that leads to the Sol system, and all of the bickering houses here in Sirius quit their bickering and band together to fight the interstellar war.

They're Nomads. They can do what they want.

In fact, I'm sure if they united their brain power, that they could bend space and allow for the giant cannon nomad to slip into Sol if they wanted. When you have telepathic aliens capable of destroying suns, I think its shortsighted to say they'd need a pre-existing anomoly or technology. The Alien JGs were probably put in Minor-Dyson Sphere by the Dom'Kavash for the convenience of their pets more than anything.

Beyond player compatability, I think having the whole presence of the Nomads building Alien JGs is rather... Limiting.

But thats another topic entirely.

-Edit- Me, I say no. They won the space, why would they pursue people over dozens or hundreds of light years to an inexact point on some ambiguous map when they were fighting the entire time, apparently, for the system. Using information like schematics on computers that probably got magneted or burnt when the Alliance was done with them, I might add.

Also, after the Coalition won (and may have been destroyed), seeing which way everyone else went, would they follow? They very well have built one and sent it the opposite direction, right?

I like the unofficial storyline. Alliance vs Coalition War was over, since Alliance left and Coalition main forces were destroyed by Nomads.
But some people survived in the space bases in Sol system. Not all of them was found by Nomads. The Nomads didn't hunt people, they appeared, they destroyed the Earth and they disappeared.

Because of the central government and main forces were destroyed, the Coalition splits to separate nations/factions. Some of them are allied, some of them start fighting, as usual.

Now, the Earth is not life friendly planet - burned rock. The people from Sol system want to find a new home planet. The rest of Coalition forces know that one of their ships followed the Alliance Sleeper ships, and they know the direction. They want to contact with this ship to check the situation. I think the Coalition in Sirius wants to contact with Earth too. In the end they establish connection and Sirius Coalition start to build Hiper Gate to Sol system.

Because of nothing and never can be kept in secret, LSF and other secret services know about that and what happened in Sol system. The factions in Sol system know about Sirius too.

People from both sides start to looking for jumpholes between Sol and Sirius. There is not direct connection, travel is long and danger, but in the end someone will find the way.

And then....

I dont think there has been any official statement from the devs regarding the unofficial storyline has there?

Besides - other sectors of space would be something that should be reserved for (as yet proven or implemented) multi-server system.

No. There is no need for it, and adding even one more sleeper ship would water down the storyline to point of boring.

Additionally, The Coalition is here, but controling only single system, and playing "tiny house" cards.

And on last front, I think protion of players would take it too personally if full scale coalition would be included.

To be honest, that's unfair, as the Irish could all ask why they're portrayed as terrorists.
