Subject: The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated.

No worries, Dr. Wright. I'm fine. We ran into a bit of a snaffu with the Dreamscape. Whilst exploring a new region of space due to a misaligned Jump coil, we were accosted by an unusual vessel which forced us to make an emergency jump back into civilized space. However, we jumped back inside an anomaly located in Vespucci. This caused an unfortunate incident in which the anomaly intersected the powercore of the Bustard causing it to go critical.

We scarcely had 10 minutes to evacuate the ship before it's core melted down and the ship exploded. After a few days, and our rations almost running out, our destress call was picked up by passing traders. We only recently made it back to Ikarus.

Unfortunately this means we've lost another vessel due to strange circumstances. Two in so many of weeks. I'd write it off as circumstancial but I'm starting to wonder if someone doesn't want us researching these unusual changes going on in our region of space.

The ship that chased us out of the system we found ourselves in was reminiscent of a Nephilim...a heavily armed one at that. Why a Zoner would attack one of their own with such ferocity is unclear. With the Dreamscape out of commission, this leaves us without a vessel capable of jumping. On our return trip I reached out to a passing acquaintance I met some years ago who has a heavily armed Zoner Carrier. We will use this to search for this unknown vessel and see if we can't figure out why and what they're protecting in that strange system. Somehow, I feel like it's inextricably linked to our recent bad luck with ships.

I'll keep you updated better in the future, Dr. Wright. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a lot of paperwork to do, seems as if it piled up during my absence.

We've went ahead and sold Ozymandias. As a research hub, it was simply too far away to effectively run operations without running into problems. As a development station, it was a bit too far away for some materials. As such, we've let go of the station to other administrators.

In other news, we've also managed to sell much of our research to an entrepreneur in Bretonia who has assured me that the data will go to a good place and not be misused in anyway.

Things are looking up and we can now focus on Ikarus Station as our primary residence for operations moving forwards. If anyone has any questions concerning this change, you can always drop by my office at Ikarus.

Subject: The Retrofit

Encryption Strength: Impossible

Director,

As we previously discussed in person. I have acquired a Pilgrim Liner as a larger vessel to house not only research labs, but to incorporate the Aurora's power system and hyperspace survey equipment into this, ah, new vessel. Which brings us to the fun part. You see when Finn originally installed the power core on the Aurora I wasn't exactly present for it. And beyond the basic maintenance manual he drafted for us...

Well to be frank much of it is unknown to me. I'm thinking of outsourcing the retrofit to the Technocracy. I have a minor history with them and I suspect that Finn relied upon them more than he may have let on in his original designs of the IRG core. That and the relative secrecy that would come with working with them over say the Junkers or even the Miners Guild, despite their larger facilities.

Director,

I've been in contact with a independent, researcher who has indicated that they may have some work for us in the near future, likely involving Lavidia. See attached communication logs for reference.

Had an illuminating discussion with some folks at Freeport 14 over the weekend. Concerned about what the future might hold.

We need to keep a closer eye on that stable Baxter anomaly nearby. I've stationed a Corvo there to monitor it around the clock. Pay special attention to the Photon levels. If they get out of whack, let me know immediately.

I needed to get out of the office for a few days so I went on a jaunt in one of our Deep Space Explorers. Eventually, I somehow wound up in Sigma-59 of all places. Ventured into the ominous large Anvia nebula and about crashed headfirst into a planet. After I shook off the adrenaline and got my heart rate under control, I annotated it's location in our logs. We don't normally come into the Sigmas much, but better safe than sorry. However, it's possible that might change.

I discovered an abandoned station in orbit around the planet. It seems it's been emptied for some time. I slaved the Spatial to the stations system to at least get the lights on and took a cursory look around. Seems like an ample location for a research hub and indeed the stations name indicates it was a research station before something drove them off. My guess is the GMG didn't like them lurking around in one of their systems and took care of business. The station isn't in terrible shape; Ikarus was in worse shape when we found it, but this one will need a new coat of paint if we decide to use it for anything.

Need to figure out if we contact the GMG to request being within their system or be stealthy about it and do research in secret. My guess is both options are dangerous and unwise, but the configuration of this nebula and the interesting properties of it makes for an ample research opportunity. Additionally, Sigma-59 is very unique from the standpoint of it's star. There aren't many like it and research this close has been documented very rarely. If we do contact the GMG for permission, we should note that any and all research that is publicized should go through one of their folks first to ensure that any secrets they don't want out are kept that way.

I'll stick around here for a while longer and nose around. If anything is found of any significance during that time, I'll document it here.

Been spending a lot of time lately gettin' acquainted with the various hulls utilized by SLRC for transport and surveying - it's been a lot of new information to take in, and a little dangerous, but our technical staff have been a big help walking me through their command suites and capabilities.

In between shakedown runs on the Corvo "Tensor Product", I took my Spatial and decided to start familiarizing myself with the region hands-on. Catching up on prior survey data as I go from the cockpit gives me a lotta perspective I wouldn't get from inside an office. As a newcomer to the Taus, synthesizing this info effectively is pretty darn important, so off I went.

I swung up towards Gallia for the same reason, having never been in the House before, and might've spied an interesting point of comparison! Reading up on Planet Creil (Ile-de-France system), its theoretical status as the former core of a gas giant places it in some relation to Planet Malakka (Tau-44 system), which also contains a large core (with terrestrial components!) while possessing the atmospheric thickness and density of a gas giant.

While the individual gas composition of each planet's atmosphere (or what's left of it in the Gallic case) is guaranteed to vary, it's interesting to think of these two as sister planets in a way, similar but existing in different circumstances. That could have interesting implications for biological study considering the complex organic molecules found on Creil, with examination of Malakka offering the possibility of a "peek into the past" with regards to Creil's present development.

But lookin' into it any further is definitely out of my wheelhouse, so I'll leave it to you fine folks for potential future interest.

Today is a great day. I just received word that our newest vessel, the LDRV Endurance will be ready soon. We lucked out, in fact. It turns out another order was cancelled due to funding mismanagement by another party and the frame of one was ready to go! We've sent a team out to assist the Renzu/Interspace folks in configuring the ships to our parameters for the equipment but we should be underway within two to three days assuming all goes according to plan.

One of our crew sent me a photo of the ship resting in one of the stations drydocks waiting for crew to arrive. It's a fantastic sight! This is only the first step towards what this vessel can achieve. Very soon, we will be making endeavors to see this ship used in many long distance research missions, which is what it will be intended for!

More to come soon! Ever upwards, towards Starlight!

A statement of warning to my new colleagues: Orkney was just recently the site of a major joint operation by Bretonian / Crayter armed forces. I was running secondary surveys of stellar bodies in the area after coming back from Provence and waltzed right into the allied battlegroup. The shocking part for me was that they were blasting away at what looked to be Gallic Navy ships, though there were a good number of Royalist IFFs in the battlespace on top of that.

Beyond my utter shock that there are actually still Royalists fighting for that insane cause after Leeds, I'm concerned that we might be sittin' uncomfortably close to an undeclared war here in Tau-23, just one system over. I dunno what possessed the damned Brets to go ham on the Gallic government forces during that clash, but you can expect that there'll be some kind of retaliation. Alongside the warnings and aftermath of Nomad activity in Orkney of all places, which under different circumstances I would suggest attempting to observe nice and quiet-like, it's shaping up to be a nasty situation over there. I know for me personally, I'm going to be looking extra-hard into a defensive cloaking package for the Attlerock now that working for you fine people has me flush with scrip, just in case things get worse and spill over!

I'd suggest routing around Orkney if your business takes you that direction, and to keep a finger on the pulse of how this allied operation develops - after seeing the sheer desolation littered across the Taus, we don't want another wave of that to catch us blind.

Subject: Important Message from the Director

Encryption Strength: Impossible

With the recent concerns over the Tau's heating up once again in the war between Gallia and Bretonia, I'm going to step up our security teams tempo. As of now, any long distance research teams are hereby recalled to Ikarus to be assigned a security team escort. While I do not anticipate any attacks against our ships in the region from either party, this is simply a safety measure to ensure that our people out in the field are protected from harm.

Security teams are hereby authorized purchase of combat ready vessels using SLRC funding not to exceed 50 million credits for fighters. Gunships/Gunboats will be authorized on an as needed basis. Additionally, we have ZDF stepping up patrols in the area to ensure that Ikarus Station is free from any cross-fire between parties.

Lastly, I'm in talks with Commander Elias Wilder to potentially roll the ZDF tempo into SLRC, making him the de facto Director of Security for SLRC. These talks have not concluded yet and for the time being, ZDF is a separate entity from the SLRC. The Zoner Defense Fleet may remain independent regardless of these talks. However, if the merger does go through, our security tempo will increase dramatically overnight.

That's all. Keep your heads on a swivel. If something seems off near Ikarus, play it safe and dock. Call for help and we'll do all that we can to assist and ensure the safety of our personnel.

Stay safe.
