While the boxes are all but unstealable, perhaps that led them to lower their guard on more low tech methods of espionage? Older computer systems with pieces of schematics, broken parts of rings floating off into space, the fact they do a lot of repairs based off an IMG station who lets whoever land, that sort of thing. Obviously, it would be silly if they just stole the info whole, but getting a little piece here or there and letting the Gallic engineers piece it together seems more feasible.
(Of course, it would have made much more sense if it was the Zoners who had done all of this. Groups that randomly leave the houses? Seems suspicious to me.)
The technology might be the same, but that's not to say Gallic designs should be. I think we should give Gallia their own tradelane models to make them more unique. Right now, to me Gallia doesn't feel like a place that has been cut off from the rest of the universe until now, since they use all the same generic equipment (scanners, missiles, mines etc.) as the rest of Sirius. And honestly, the 'Junkers stole it' excuse it rather poor. We don't allow players to use that excuse to obtain ships/equipment. I think it takes away from making Gallia a truly unique place.
While the boxes of LT parts are unstealable, there are some TLs out there that this could be taken from, like how in SP there was a defunct TL leading to the mining station Glorious, some of the ring pieces looked to still be reasonably intact and I'm sure if you scavenged the entire lanes worth of old rings you could get enough parts and info for a single functional ring.
We're talking not about human technology, people. Wormholes/Gates aren't that tricky. Lanes, though, don't make sense. They don't. They're worldbenders, anchored to specific orientations around twirling systems...Its a far jump from jump drives to tradelanes, and its not one the science of mankind in freelancer are capable of reaching.
Why don't the hackers build them? Because they don't understand the tech. Ageria's Employees don't know what they're building, they're just putting the pieces together just so...and its not a puzzle, either, where the pieces make sense and can be taken back apart. They're turning specific raw materials into other things through processes devised by the DK for bending the universe....I seriously the Gallians (or any other humans) could reverse engineer the process for building them. They can't steal nearly enough for a house, either. They really shouldn't have them. Solution? Make their systems closer together, include inter system jhs.
The Omicrons and omegas, Outcasts, Corsairs, Zoners, Order, Nomads(ok, they've a few) BHG, and the Hessians do fine without tradelanes. Not needed. And for that matter, a couple of the lanes in gallia aren't even as efficient as cruise.
I don't begrudge gallia the trade lanes but I too agree that they should have a custom model. Anyone who can model and implement a ship can do this, a trade lane isn't that different. It will however take a few hours to go through all th galliac system and replace the current lanes with the new ones and test them.
Something similar to the Nomad TL's up in Omicron Iota would be cool. At the very least, they prove that custom TL's complete with their own effects can be done.
