' Wrote:@DataPhreak: I know, i'm new here, but your suggestion is violating server rules. ID tag and equipment must match closely. Falcata with Tizonas is prohibited.
Not true, a freelancer can use Tiznonas, with appropriate roleplay. A freelancer can use a Falcata. Per Tech Use Chart. Perhaps, a freelancer running around in a Lane Hacker gunship, or a Barghest, with a corsairs tag will be more palatable. You can use it, it just means that the faction will be after you. Then, any lawful will try to run you off, for being a pirate. Any unlawful will attack you, either because you have one of their ships without their permission, or have a tag that belongs to their enemies. Hell, just an outcast ship with a corsairs tag would probably get that done.
Either way, the previous post was sarcasm. The point was, if you don't make 1 thing the deciding factor in engagement rights, then the bloodthirsty non-rp types can use it to entice engagements, and the rules Lolyer Lawfuls who do nothing but sit around, say.... london, will use it to attack other freelancers, because they are bored. This has happened, and does still, on a frequent basis.
Bottom line, ID first. RP second. Ship, rep, eq don't count for squat, or else, lawfuls can go around shooting every Merc in a Crow because they are flying a pirate ship.
testfly that equipment, even with a posted story/bio and you will find yourself very quick in
Bastille.
For such a setup you would need a special permittance by the admins which would require a really
very good character bio/story - we've lots of people that would love to have OoRP characters, but
if you look at the special role playing characters thread there are just a very few who got such a
permission.

With corsair stuff & corsair ship you will be considered a freelancing corsair in RP and prolly
all that are hostile to corsairs will treat you as an enemy and will give you a hard time.
So better make up your mind, if you want to stay pretty neutral but pirate friendly become
a Junker or independent pirate, if you love corsair stuff that much become a corsair with
corsair ID.
ID takes precedence due to the restrictions on who you can and cannot engage. If the ID is not obviously hostile, the next factor is tag, as this indicates who you are affiliated with. Finally, comes ship and loadout, as that indicates with whom you have semi-friendly to neutral ties.
However, superseding all this should be roleplay. If someone roleplays their way into a situation in which you view them as hostile, you should treat them as such, no matter their ID (with full view to the RP consequences, of course).
If your example of a Corsair tagged Corsair ship with Corsair guns simply passes through house space, the likelyhood is that you will be asked to leave (sans any cargo-running cargo to 'Sairs is not usually accepted), however, if you are idling on lawful patrol paths, expect to get a "warm" welcome (warm because of the lasers...hehe).

What i would like to know is, how house authorities for instance would react, iff they see a Corsair freighter (without cargo or legal goods) with Corsair tag and Freelancer ID? Will they treat me the same way as OPG does, looking for ID only?
Yes ... they'd better treat you as a Freelancer ... ID takes precedence to the IFF.
Tag: A short summary for others to see a small part of your repsheet, which you can see, but they can't. Essentially, think of it as someone looking at your repsheet. Your tag is not who you are, but who(what faction) likes you most.
ID: This is who you are. Yes, in a way, it is metagaming to determine one's status by simply looking at someone's ID, but that's where roleplay comes in, right? For instance, there could be a database on the Sirius Neural Nets of known Freelancers, Pirates, IMG, KNF, or Bowex, etc...
Equipment/Ship: This is completely delegated by the RP that you have on the server and the stories you have on the forums. When you start out, your equipment should match your ID, not necessarily your tag(though it often will). Eventually, as you flesh out your RP and become known, then you can begin to make alterations.
You can have a Freelancer ID and a Corsair tag. It simply means that you're a Freelancer who has done a significant amount of work for the Corsairs, and they like you most out of all the factions you have encountered.
Often, there is confusion between the roles of your ID or Tag, especially since how matching IDs and Tags are often stressed in factions and, as a result, in many independent players. That does not mean that a little mixing and mashing is impossible, however. It just needs to be done with logic and have supporting stories on the forums. For instance, while a Corsair-tagged Outcast would be completely ridiculous, an Outcast-tagged, Cardamine-addicted Molly might make a great deal of sense.
Quote:How do you change your tag?
You can use the /droprep command to literally bring the faction that you are currently tagged with to neutral, and take missions for the faction that you want to be tagged as to increase your reputation with them. When the name of the faction that you want to be tagged with is flashing, then you know you have succeeded. If another faction is flashing, simply use /droprep again(...or kill some of their NPCs/depots, or fail their missions), and continue until you succeed.

I am relatively new here but have spent a lot of time on the server and also checking out Technology guide etc.
Apologies if I am not accurate but iy you want to have a Freelancer ID then why not ensure your IFF says freelancer. I have seen quite a few people on the server with this IFF, some with the Freelancer ID and some with Pirate ID. According to the Tech guide a freelancer ID can use various different factions technology aslong as it is backed up by RP and bio etc.
In my humble opinion people seem to decide they want a certain factions equipment, ships etc but dont really want the ID as it will limit there scope of movement. For example I have a corsair ID and am green to about 5 factions and that is it, and how it should be. So to 'get round it' so to speak they allign them self to the faction for a period of time, complete missions etc until they can get all the 'cool' stuff and them fly around with the 'Corsair' IFF and equipment but buy a freelancer ID so they can pretty much go and do what they want. No doubt being green to Outcasts, etc
I am using the Corsair IFF as an example but if I saw a ship Corsair IFF and equip and I was a Lawful, Outcast etc I would be pretty sure they should be treated as hostile as clearly even with a freelancer tag they have carried out numerous missions or committed unlawful actions for the said IFF faction.
If you are a true Freelancer would you not try and stay as neutal as possible and ensure your IFF was not set on a specific lawful or unlawful faction.
I believe the IFF should be a good Indication and the first point in determining someones allegance, because it isnt difficult to go out and buy a new ID because you decide you want to visit NY or the Outcasts and might find it difficult because you have a Coraisr IFF, so hey I will buy a freelancer or mercenary ID and if challenged say, stop I am a freelancer and neutral ( hey I wasnt 1 hour ago when I was shooting your NCP's though) but what the hell
Anyway just my thoughts from spending time on line and reading posts, rules etc
ID takes precedence, but some IDs are not self-sufficient to establish who the character really is. The generic IDs, like the FL ID, just can't make the full picture.
With those IDs other players use the Tag, ship and equipment to establish the character's alignment. If I see a FL ID, Corsair Tag and Corsair equipment, I'll treat him almost like a Corsair. He may get a bit of leniency, but he has to be quick and very good at explaining if he faces a character of mine that is hostile/unfriendly to Corsairs.
I ususally go IFF first, then I go ID when I get to scan their cargo. For me, Tags are just to let you know if thyre hostile or not, and the ID is what actually matters. most people disagree with me.
