While the nurse was attending to her, Doc entered the room and took a seat next to Lea.
"Ms. Kaufman, I heard you were awake." He turned to the nurse. "How are her recent vitals?"
The nurse gave them to him and he nodded his approval.
"Let us take a look," he told her as he pulled the sheets away from her legs. The nurse was present taking notes.
"Right now things should not hurt with the meds I have you on but tell me if you feel anything," he told her. He was poking a few spots. "You might feel pressure and even some discomfort but no pain." He finished his poking and ran a bio scan over the area. Once done, he pulled the blankets back over.

"Ms. Kaufman it is very early but things appear normal," he began. "I know you do not want to be told that you are going to be here for awhile but you will be. Please, give yourself some time to heal up and build your strength. Some physical therapy will be needed as you basically have new knee joints."

He could see the disappointment in her face. "You are safe here. In a day or two I can authorize you going ambulatory around the hospital." He looked over at the nurse. "She will be able to make that happen. You will be able to enjoy some of our facilities here. Food, drink, piano bar and such."
He sat back and relaxed, taking a genuine interest in her. "Can I get you anything? Is there anyone I can get ahold of for you?"

When she was poked over her knees, she felt the discomfort and no pain as expected. She was indeed disappointed to stay longer, but the healing process and doing some physical therapy required time. She pushed a sigh while understanding her position. ''I don't need anything, thank you. Also, thank you for the surgery.'' She said after a moment. Then, she looked at him and broke the silence. ''Do I need to pay for the surgery?''

After saying that, for a moment, Lea started thinking about what physical therapy she will need to do.

He shook his head.
"No bill," he answered. "I have never billed anyone for our work. In the future, pay it forward to someone else who needs help."
He smiled a bit. "Perhaps one day you can do something for us. I can always use contacts here and there."

He rose to his feet. "Dr. Dirkschneider will be here tomorrow to give a look at you. If you need anything, do not hesitate to ask me. Now get some rest."
He then turned to the nurse.
"I will be in pediatrics for the rest of the day. I have some children who need my services."
With that, he left the room.

26th February 835 A.S - System: Omicron Theta / Med Force Academy

After he left, Lea inspected her own legs once she was finally alone. There was no doubt that, physically speaking, the surgery had gone well. At first glance, there was nothing unusual. Only when looking closely did Lea manage to notice a faint mark—a mark that could make anyone think she had undergone surgery. A feeling of relief washed over her at the thought that she would be able to walk and run again. But the real relief came from the fact that it was barely visible, and her usual outfit would easily conceal it without any issue.

Still alone, Lea Kaufman dared to initiate her physical therapy. At first, while still seated on the bed, she began moving her legs back and forth in slow, repetitive motions, just to get accustomed to them. Of course, during the first few seconds, she moved cautiously, testing for any pain, but there was none. However, she did notice that something felt different. She told herself she would need time to get used to this. After a few more movements, she decided to try standing up. Staying close to the bed, she slowly slid off and placed her feet on the ground. She had to hold onto the bed to keep her balance. ''I can stand... at least there's that...'' Until late into the evening, she remained there, shifting her weight slightly, testing her stance, and making sure she could keep her balance.

After a while, Lea fell asleep. Once morning triggered her biological clock, she repeated the same process. Standing on her feet, keeping her balance in check. Then, she took a step, checked her balance, took another step, and continued that way while staying close to the bed. After several more steps, she felt more confident and walked toward the wall before making her way back to the bed. Just as she was about to reach it, the door slid open, and a doctor entered. Caught off guard, she lost her balance and fell forward onto the bed. ''Entering like this... good thing I wasn’t doing something stupid... Regardless, I made some progress alone.''

Dr. Dirk, as he was called, entered the room to check in on his patient. He saw her stumble and came to her aid, helping her onto her bed.
"You must relax," he told her. "You must give yourself some time. It takes a few weeks for those re-attached tissues to heal. Push yourself and they will not heal right and I will have to reset them."

He then reached over and adjusted the pain medication. "It is time to reduce that a bit. You will start to feel it."
He took a look at her chart and made an entry on it.

"I will have a physical therapist start working with you within the hour," he told her. He then gave her a kind but serious look. "Please, give yourself time. If you do not, you could cripple yourself. Whatever you need to take care of will wait."

''I just wanted to do it by myself and leave as soon as possible.'' She replied while already taking a sitting position on the bed. ''While I do agree that healing is mandatory, to me, what is important is being able to walk sooner than later. My body screams to move and get active. I've been in bed for four days already and almost one day here.'' She then added inpatient.

The pain medication being decreased, she felt it a bit, but it was tolerable. Yet, she still wanted to walk again. Just like before Dirk entered.

"I know that you want to leave, Ms. Kaufman, but I must insist you stay to rehab yourself," the doctor answered. "You WILL walk again and will do so with full strength and no side effects but you must give yourself time."

He understood her not wanting to lay in bed. It would drive him bonkers too. "Listen, so that you don't part with your sanity while you are here, I will order that you be allowed to be ambulatory. It does not get you on your feet right away but I will have someone wheel you about. I will also see to it that you get walked during the day even if that means I have to come in and do some of it myself."
"In the meantime," he asked of her, "is there anything in the way of food or something that I can get for you? We have pretty much everything here."

26th February 835 A.S - System: Omicron Theta / Med Force Academy

Lea Kaufman sighed. She gave up and just accepted the doctor's offer. During her stay at Med Force Academy, she complied to some directives to follow such as: Not risking herself while trying to walk alone and participating to some exercises that were needed for her adaptation. Her stays lasted for a week and some additional days.

After some final exams, all signs were green. She was able to leave with no issue. She thanked some doctors before to head for the hangar where her ship, an Odin MK I was parked. The happiness to retrieve her ship was written on her face as she made her way to her ship. However, she had no intention to return in Rheinland. Especially with what happened there. She lost her house and the news she saw about the arson, it was clear she could be the main suspect. Preferring to avoid conflict, she decided to take a chance in Kusari.

7th March to 3rd April 835 A.S

Lea contacted the Naval Operation Headquarters to get an extraordinary license for her Odin. She had to do it so she could use it legally. She also met Elize Terblanche, a woman working for Caledonia Shipping Ltd. Lea met her in New London and from that system to Honshu, she escorted Elize's transport vessel. Lea had somehow a non-written contract with the company. She could escort all transport ship whenever she wanted too. Later during the April month, Lea contacted Caliban to get a new display for her transponder. It was only in June that her package was ready to be picked up from Barrier Gate, Section B.
