Just wanted to throw my 2c about this sentiment, in case anyone else is having similar thoughts. I remember reading through the forums in late 2022 and thinking, man, this place seems pretty depressing. People angry about story stuff, people arguing about 5.0 balance. Should I even bother returning?

Well, turns out I made the right choice. Just find a faction where you can develop a character, write some rp that you enjoy. Don't tie yourself to PoBs or specific story outcomes. I played my RM char and started casually writing events, figuring it out as I went along. If you cannot find anything to do with this in mind, I guess the place ain't for you after all. But I'd be very surprised to see another game and community that can offer what we have here. Good luck finding it.

I'm personally enjoying not taking it too seriously because then I'm not too sad when I think of the fact that the server isn't very busy outside of events/raids (and that's a system or 2 at a time anyway). As much as I certainly wish some combat-related changes were never even conceived in the mind, let alone coded and implemented, sometimes you've gotta make do with what you have when you want to play a game and server (pretty much one and the same at this point) that's supposed to revolve around player interaction. I'll avoid the obvious conversation regarding why it seems like that doesn't happen.

Keep giving feedback to devs via appropriate channels (like this thread I suppose) and pray they get the message that this is in fact quite a common sentiment. Do think there needs to be less tug o' war between players, staff and devs and more pushing the server in the right direction so that we all may enjoy it more again. I've offered my assistance in refining the new-player experience (only via direction/organisation, I can't code for shit) because I want to see Disco have some sort of resurgence and/or player retention at least once more, and this is a key issue I think. The problems people have become less pronounced because there is simply more to do when it's busier. I think that'd solve a lot of things since the game becomes less 1-dimensional by itself.

My point is, it's a compounding problem. Less players = less interaction = less care from players/staff/devs = a downward spiral until a miracle happens or a push is made to pique interest again, either from more vets or new players. Both pools are rather dry, but until then just try to enjoy what there is, if you want to play.

Barrier is right though. What we have here is still very unique. As is the game.

I'd say it's not worth it unless you have something you like to do and you don't care what people say or do about it.

Only with cd's, not with mounted guns.. You have like 5 minutes to easly shoot down a nova with turrets..a bomber can't take down anything at all..

I'll return when we get back to 2020 server status. I could somehow get over deleting snacs one-shotting, but everything after is really bad. Catered to power traders, RP grinders and cap drivers. All the things freelancer is NOT about.
Cloak changes are hilariously bad. What is even "butt-cloacking" - apperantly its the reason for the change? Aren't you supposed to RP before you open fire on someone? Who benefited from this? Capital ships, power traders. The thrill is gone to say the least. Snubs are unplayable.

Hey, it is completely fine to not enjoy a game. Good luck in your future endeavors.

False.
I've used bombers longer than your account has existed.
Don't even.

No thanks, just don't return.

You're playing Discovery Freelancer RP, not Vanilla Freelancer PvE.
What the hell would you know Freelancer is about anyway? What puts you in a position to know and nobody else here?

Cloaks as they are actually benefit snubs more, the changes arguably nerfed cap cloaking. These changes do not help powertraders as all you need to do is get close enough to said cloaked powertrader and then they auto-decloak. - Buttcloaking was when someone would cloak their ship (usually a battleship), fly up behind an opponent and then decloak point-blank up their arse and start shooting. Often paired with the /1 /2 commands, taking advantage of set messages to drop your minimum 'two-lines' RP before engagement.

I do agree with this however.

Snubs are the most powerful they have ever been. You can take on capital ships with a handful of fighters.

Educate yourself more.

I'll preface this by saying that you have your preferences, and things you want to do within the game. The game itself has changed enough to warrant you saying that it's not worth coming back to. Fair enough.

Now for my response to your post:

The game is a roleplay server, not a PVP one. The entirety of your post talks about being most efficient with guns and associated components (ship classes and power cores). What ruffles my feathers a bit is why people consider PVP / PVE the only thing to do in this game? I would imagine that a reasonable person would simply try something else if what they came back to is somewhat unrecognizable.

This next point may have been pointed out by another community member from another similar thread. When coming back, you are comparing the game as it was when you last played to how it is now. These differences cause frustration because it's balance is now significantly different. Effectively it's a game you now have to re-learn. Or, as previously stated, instead of relearning, try out another aspect of roleplay.

I can respect you leaving for your own reasons (if you say, hard to tell), though do be mindful that as a former(?) community member, you are also in the position to strengthen interactions and events by doing what you can to make them better. I see too many get discouraged by the same reasons you mentioned in your post.

I see it as similar to Barrier. As the Leader of OS&C, I have, over the Years, walked on my own path and have tried to create a Friendly and Welcoming Faction for both Veterans and Newcomers. Is the Game 100% Balanced? Hell no, but in my eyes, this is still an RP Server that should be treated as such. When it comes to me, I am prioritizing Roleplay over PVP. I think the Economy Rework was a great thing, even when I am not a big fan of Passenger Cabins. And I also think that we, as the Playerbase, should be thankful that this Game still exists. I mean this game is 100% FOR FREE, there are no monetization options, like Microtransactions or Donations. Hell, the owner won't even let us help pay for Server Upkeep.

In a world where even Mods get monetized, the Playerbase is Milked of their Money like no Tomorrow. I see Disco as an Example of the Good old Days before the Horse Armor. We still get updates and patches, and new content (shipyards, etc.), and we don't have to pay a single cent for all of this.

But I am not just praising the Team. Where there is criticism to be due there it should be done in a Civilized Manner. Constructive Criticism should always be allowed. And as History has shown so far, it has led to Changes and Improvements in the past. I think if you have a Valid Point of Criticism like that, Bombers are too Weak, then go and discuss with the DEV Team about it. In my Experience, I have found out that if you treat them with the respect that every Human Deserves, then they are Inclined to listen to your Words and take them to Heart to improve the Game that we all Love.

And if you have an Even Greater Desire for Change and Improvement, then why don't you consider becoming a part of the Staff team? You could work for the Changes that you want to see from the Inside. And with the current problem of Finding Enough Staff Members for all the work, this could not only help you but the whole community.

PS: I myself have thought many times about joining the Staff Team. But I am enough of a Realist to know that my Depression would make me more of a Liability than an Asset for the People there. Still, I support where I can and try to make my own Little Corner of Sirius, namely OS&C, as good and friendly as I can.
