Well, actually there was a discussion on how to rise the maximum player amount. And the idea with the two connected servers running half od Sirius each was the most promising.

When you look at it though.
Its only heavily populated during for me its Noon till around 3PM. Those 3 hours its hard to get a spot where its in the 190s.
And on Saturday and Sunday its packed for a good part of the day as well. Around same times.

At around this time it ranges from 80-120 at most.
Not to mention the current server has some nice specs. Making another with identical will be a bit costly.

Perhaps we could get a second server that is weaker than the first, and split the usage 60/40 or something? More cost effective, maybe we don't need 400 slots. Maybe 300 or 350 would cut down on server usage or something?

I know nothing about this stuff, just spouting ideas.

I prefer it full, more to do.
And instead of having another, 'parallel universe' type, server, why not just try to find ways to boost this one over 200 limit?

It has been stated a thousand and one times: Impossible. Playing would be no fun at all, because the server stability will drop to somewhat nearly zero.

Pushing the limit above 200 would require the FLserver to be re-written in order to adjust it to run with more than one core.

Allow me to butt in here.

The current server is incapable of going past this limit of 200 without severe instability. Cannon had said it might be possible, using FLHook, to assign multiple physical servers to the virtual Freelancer server that the world sees.

If this can be determined feasible, then we've got a good shot at a higher limit. Fingers crossed. For now though, everything works okay.

Oh, I didn't know that. That would be indeed impressive. Seems like we have to wait for the code gurus now.

IT is IMPOSSIBLE to have more than 200 on a server without the source code, because no affordable server can do it, because FL doesn't support dual core. Remember it is a 2000 game.
So, they said they were gona try something like this, just not sure when. Same character carry over, same everything only diff you dont see people on the other server. So shared database. I was about to say make one PvE server but then realised I would be killed by everyone instantly.

Anyway, so if things go well I may actually have my dream of being the only person on for miles. Doncha wish everyone would log off when you log in?
