Invent that Gas!

Were talking naturaly occuring gasses here.
If its at all possible prehaps add mining from a gas giant ?

Have the edge of the minable zone end JUST outside the planets surface (IE: 50meters max) and have items mined from it.

Unrefined Oxygen
Unpurified Water (replace the standard water drop, make there be a differnce between the two)
Unrefined Hydrodgen
Unrefined Methane (WAS THAT YOU DUSTY ?)

Have various places, especily GMG, buy unrefined gasses. Have THOSE bases sell the refined version (IE: the vanilla Oxygen)

These would be cool things to add into RP for someone like Planetform to mine. It's a horribly stale faction, but, it does have miners (look at Edinburgh's Tain Asteroid Belt!). If it could mine these things, it might give it a nice touch that might just give the faction life! Afterall, terraforming gases have to be made from something.

It is important to me to get the science to a non-laughable state with this one. I think the makers of Freelancer were onto something when they invented H-Fuel.

The very first thing I would ask for is to make H-Fuel profit levels the same as Plutonium. Pluto and H-Fuel re both sought after, but used for different purposes.

That being said - H-Fuel is not naturally occurring. H-Fuel is a blended fuel. It contains the following:

Helium-3. - He3
Deuterium - D
Hydrogen Gas - H

In terms of a locally 'mined' gas - the gas if choice would be Helium 3.

1) It is the key component of H-Fuel - what gives H-Fuel its 'kick'. The fusion reaction it generates is much more powerful than simple Deuterium fusion.

2) He3 is very rare by Earth standards. This is because it only occurs in older stars - once most of the normal Hydrogen and Deuterium is used up.

3) I propose that the Crow Nebula is the remains of an older star that was ripped apart by the Black Hole residing in Outcast space, over a billion years ago.

4) The GMG would also 'mine' all of the elemental Hydrogen. Hydrogen is extremely abundant, and doesnt need to be represented by the trading or mining system.

5) The GMG would also mine most of their Deuterium. However, the ratio of He3 to D is not equal - so to maximise efficiency of production, the GMG must IMPORT a certain amount of Deuterium from the Zoners. Deuterium is rare across Sirius - I theorise that is because the Dom'Kavash used up most of it during the development of their civilisation.

6) So this makes Helium3 like an 'ore'. One would mine it locally, then bring it back to one of the gas miners for a profit. Just have to consider where you want it taken, and render the profit margin based on that.

I saw once something about cloaking ships so that you can't actually target them.

If it's possible, perhaps you could make NPC ships that look like those huge explosive gas clouds - and make them fly around at extremely slow speeds. Then when you destroy them, you get H-fuel, etc.

Indeed, Co2 could also be added, along with Ozone and other greenhouse gasses.

They could be sold on planetform bases to create teraforming gasses.

Well dont have H-fuel directly dropped.

And that would negate mining bonus too.

What we need is for GMG fields, and other ones, to have the components of hFuel

Zoners and IMG should specalize in Deuterium mining, and sell it to GMG

GMG should specalize in the other HFuel components.

For Planetform:

CO2 and O3 are too easy to make from Oxygen and Hydrocarbons to mine.

You need something more exotic - like Chlorine and Flourine to make CFCs (very potent greenhouse gases for climate terraforming).

Cl and F occur most often as salts - which most certainly can be mined!

Cl - most obviously mined as NaCl - too common for the mining system.

Which leaves Flourine Salts as the mineable commodity of choice!

@Bacon - have Planetform mine Flourite as its ore of choice!

Dustinon: This very rare and complex element is the 682nd on the periodic table. It's density is unimaginable, only attainable around black holes. It is believed that this gas is the product of the multiple bodies caught by the black hole all crushed into a gaseous, yet dense, form. Being subjected to this gas will cause sever skin irritation, mental disorders, and even complete and total insanity.

It'd give the black hole purpose other than giving outcasts random explorers that dont ask first to shoot.
