Unfortunately the Vista versions of Norton and McAfee av's, when installed, change something in the registry that does not allow FL to connect properly to the servers. Only way to do it is to uninstall the Norton. Try uninstalling it only when you want to play FL and then reinstalling it when your done. This is the only flaw I have found in Vista. I love Vista and have had no other problems with it. ME II no way, I had ME and that was garbage.

If anyone had XP when it first came out, you might remember all of the problems it had. Just give it some time people. Once the bugs are worked out, Vista will change the world.

((Goes and collects a $100 payment from Bill Gates))

PS, I really do love my Vista, but it is still a little buggy.

Thanks, I hope he has it! Then you could ask him how he fixed it.

If not , well then my only chance of survival is double boot. One hardrive with Vista and another with XP.

The problem is , as I said many times. I cant and iam not allowed to un-install Norton for my dad. He bought the dang program so he refuses. Besides, the Norton worked wonders in XP on my other comp, thats why he think its good here too!

Mcafee/Norton blocks several ports permanently, one of which happens to be 2302. Of course, divine providence ensures that this is the one FL uses.

Uninstall Norton, or just do the thing I sent to you in PM.

I have returned, and am on an urgent mission from Drake Thastus to return the Legion to its former glory, and to claim the galaxy for its own. Only then will I be able to rest.

BFH: Can you PM me that fix as well, I have just uninstalled McAfee all together and if you have another way of getting this to work I would love to hear it.

Well, it's just a patch fix. It doesn't really fix the problem, just allows you to play.

Create a system restore point.

Uninstall Mcafee with Mcafee's uninstall utility. Programs and Features will not reverse the registry changes.

Create a restore point.

Play FL to your heart's content.

Restore back to your previous one with Mcafee on it.

Your characters will be saved, as they are saved on the server itself, not on your machine. You'll have to create restore points every few days, but it's a temporary fix until your subscription expires, or until the hotfix from Microsoft, which I doubt will ever come, arrives.

Dunno folks how about you, but my Vista works pretty well. It is true that I don't have Norton installed (long story), and I will never install that. And FL haves no problem with it.

Well, we can hope that since FL is a microsoft game, they will fix the issue.

Hope, its that gleaming light at the end of a tunnel. Mostly its just a train though when dealing with microsoft...

The only AV program that I know of that works with Freelancer is AVG. This is free to download and use for Home Users

and...AVG is da bomb...also, vista doesn't have many viruses yet....64 bit archetecuture....

they will come though....vista blows....

and....vista is never gonna get better, because it works against the tennants of upgraded OS...instead of getting sleeker, and demanding less resources, it does more, and, my XP was prettier.....

oh...and be sure to run the Mod manager as an administrator...it DOES NOT do it automaticly.
