Forgive me for asking essentially the same question again, but I still don't get it... I thought the only reason we dropped the 10/10 fiber connection on the old server was because the DDOS attacks fried the gateway. We were then going to replace it, running on a temporary 10/2 ADSL backup until it could be replaced. When did that plan go out the door and why?

Reading this, I'm thinking back to a question I asked some time ago about whether Repninja™ was killing an IMG character's rep with BMM to hostile. I don't know whether that question was answered or not, but I'm sure other lawful/quasi-lawful factions having rep altered by this might have a problem now going through house systems (Junkers, perhaps? Don't have a junker so I can't tell..). Perhaps tweaking repninja settings can alleviate some of the problems people are getting from the influx of NPCs?
I dunno - just rambling on here.. Really shouldn't be on these forums atm. Have too much university stuff to do.. Gahh stop distracting me with interesting stuff!

The plan went out of the door because we were concerned about the amount of time the server was offline; both in terms of frequency and duration. For this reason, I moved the server to a rented host.
We moved the server back to the original box at a new (free) location when it become clear that the rented server was not fast enough. Unfortunately this connection dropped for some reason and even though it was fixed I believed that the probability of it happening again was moderately high and so I moved the server to a better rented host.
The main issue with free hosting is that fast turn around 24/7 support and guarantee of service doesn't exist. This is excellent value for money but it makes it very hard to say when the server will be up again. Rented hosting guarantees a particular level of service. Whether they actually succeed at this is debatable.
I think (hope) that we can afford to fund a rented host. If we can't afford it or it doesn't give us decent value for money then I'll get rid of it.

In my "limited" experience, A&L (it was at his house right?) kept the server up very well, and 24 hours with little-to-no downtime wasn't uncommon. The thing that brought the server down was the DDOS attacks, which admittedly a professional host would help to negate. Was there some other major catasrophe before/after that?
No, it wasn't at A&L's house. It was hosted at friend's business.
A major catastrophe no. We were on a 10/2 mbit ADSL link for several weeks and a shared 25 mbit dynamic IP thing for a few days. Neither of these were really suitable for running the server and people were complaining; asking questions like 'when will the server work properly', etc. After several weeks with no firm-ish date for a resolution, I decided to do something about it. Thus the first rented server and then the second.
Why do you keep beating this horse?

I think they beat the horse because they believe if they hit it enough (No innuendo thankyouverymuch -_- ) than something will happen that'll fix it. *Shrug* Server's fine Cannon, thanks for your hard work.
Could we PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make npcs STOP USING MINES AND MISSILES.... god im tired... everytime i get a barrage of startrackers around me, they minespam me to fps-lag. Now, pardon me for my crappy laptop, but of all things, i find their inefficient (even against a starflea their inefficient) minespamming annoying and uneeded.
Also, thnx for fixing CD tracking, its still a bit buggy, but works better
