Come in our systems and see what keepers have mounted... Their ships are full with Zoners/Order/Corsair weapons... BS mount inferno/razors and mortars and they attack without warning even you are in fight with NPCs patrols and kill us from behind.
Now, aboout gunships, the reality is they are VERY overpowered. Have almost same firewpower with a destroyer but the agililty of the bomber (a little less). If u fight with a GS with thruster, ur cuiser/destroyer dont have any chance becose u always will be in full fire from ur enemy who will post himself somwhere where ur turets have lowest eficiency becose of the fire angle. *NB, in beta 4 their maneuvrability was improuved!. More then that, a GS have 500 nano/shields and is 5-6 times lower then ur destr/cruiser/bc. The result is a big ship *with only 600 nano/shield* will run out of this almost instant, but a GS have suplies for 3 or 4 full recovers. Is insane and frustrating becose is not about the pilot skills. All u can do is try to turn ur ship (but u cant, becose u fight in turets mods...) and finally u see is pointless. Even u will lower the shields and hit the hull a little... surprise! The GS is again fresh and ready and u runout for nano/and shields... The real fire power is the maneuvrability, the ability if ur ship to move in best positions and keep enemy in ur full fire. Donst matter the number of ur turets, the armor or hull. Just the speed. Any GS with cerberus will kill ur bus in 1-2 minutes.
Real encounter - A GS (8 cerberus) vs. Battle Cruiser (BC) Albatross (10 cerberus, 2 Corsair turets without thruster). First time when i fight against a GS i think the guy have cheating... I mean, come on, all i can do is a liniar fly to death while sitting in turets mode and trying to respond at fire and looking at him doing circles around me and recover his shields/hull 3 or 4 times (he said after the battle he still have nano/shields left...)
Posible solutions> decrease the number of Nano/Sheilds a smaller ship can carry comparing with the other results, decrease the firepower of gunship guns/turets, decrease the power/power recovery, decrease their maneyvrability, decrease the number of wepons or the shields . Comparing the eficiency, a GS cost 20 mil - a Destroyer/Cruiser or BC 100- 220+ mil. ANd guess what.. All your hard work (months and months) for a more powerfull ship is usless/ Yes, the big ships must have escorts, yes, is logical to be vulnerable at lower ships in numbers, but is ilogical a BC (a ship half BS half cruiser) cant manage with ONE very single GS. Ok, if in battle are 3-4 or more GS against ur ship and ambush you, yeah, this is a problem! But now u dont have a chance. I repeat, is not about the pilot skills when ur ship fly like a planet... Is frustrating and unrealistical.
*excuse my english but is frustrating... i'm on Discovery from about 2 months trying to have fun, but GS make all others ships usless in solo PvP (most encounters). I cant protect my trader from one GS...
Moders/admis, pls try to fight with an Albatross (220 milions dolars baby) against a Corsair GS (20 milions) and see urself what are we talking about. Just try to turn ur ship onto ur enemy and ur dead, pal! And dont cruise to maneuver ur big schoolbus in battle (not to runaway or shiled run) becose ur cheating... Is not logical and fair!

Gunboats were ok in 4.83, all after that is a Gunship era.

Everytime you go out with Albatros and fight solo against a gunboat - You will loose.
It is realistic.
No one would ever, ever roll out a capital ship without fighter support.
It's crazy for god sake.
Try flying a fighter, and you will be able to ignore gunboats, that are unable to hit you.
Edit : Oh, you are talking about Corsair m26 gb. Well, it's a cap ship killer, nothing more. Pretty useless in small craft combats.
And it has 350 bots/bats.

Yeah where did you find GS with these numbers? I know GS has 6 GB turrets same power plant as Gb and 250 bats/bots around 65k armor....
And yes if they are fuly loaded with cebs thy can kick ass, but such loadout is not very RP as many faction have their Gb turrets
i've noticed that the gunboats weapons are superior to the higher up capships...i realize that this is for a reason i'm sure..Igiss is a smart feller...but i would think the cruiser and battleship weapons would be atleast as strong and/or energy efficient i.e. the bigger ships will have bigger power plants. the point is i don't think the gunboat should have better overall weapons than bigger ships.
all this steams from my experience in Beta 4, as i haven't had time to fully try out Beta 5.
i was comparing capship weapons one day and saw how much better the gunboats were, even over battleships, and i was like :wacko:
In beta 4, and even 4.83, Gunboat turrets were as strong as Cruiser ones.
Half damage, double refire.
Maybe even better, because it's easier to hit with 4.0.
But now, Cruiser weps are improved a lot.
Speed and damage, even energy efficiency.
Try them, you'l see what i'm talking about.
No more easy kills for Gunboats against good Cruiser pilots.
And in my opinion, gunboats should be capital ship killers, while cruisers should be fighter killers.
Battleship should be a little bit of both.
So, i would give only cruisers 4.0 refire on turrets (maybe even 5.88), and on all others slower ones.
But then, Cruiser turrets should be a bit weaker, so those guns are not used efectivly against Cap. ships.

The gunboats have the agility they should have, imo (enough to counter fighters/bombers). The only thing is that their weapons are too effective/energy efficient, that's what makes a GB a Cap ship Killer, I think. A simple solution would be:
- reduce their damage or re-fire rate (3.03) and lower the energy recharge rate
- increase their energy requirement (this should do it better imo)
I hope the GB problem will disappear soon, tho.

Quick Edit tho: I was having fun killing SA Capships (cruisers/battlecruisers) with my GB ([N]-Ganohalidohi), and I had 2 Cerberus turrets, which would drain all my GB energy from full to 0 in ~40 secs or so. But now, I can fire the 2 cerberus, and I still have a small amount of regen. Now, it's too easy for me to kill a Cruiser (managed to do that without using batts or bots).
Well, i see them as torpedo boats, you see them as Submachine gun boats:)
Well, then you have nothing to complain about.
Gunboat refire matches your idea about fighter killing.
Weapons are weaker then on Cruiser now, so, that's it.

If you have a big ship that is used for killing another big ship, that's silly.
If you have a smaller ship used only for killing smaller ships, that's silly again.
Isn't it better to be a little mixed up?
For example, you can't go in battle without a cruiser, because it's a fighter killer.
But, it is an easy target for bombers too (and gunboats, yes?), so besides that cruiser that can shoot down bombers, you need additional fighters to shoot them down.
So, now it leaves something to protect them from gunboats. Bombers! Yes! Because fighters are busy with enemy bombers.
But, if you make a battle look like this, it can also be interesting :
Bring a battleship to kill a battleship.
Bring a cruiser to kill a cruiser.
Bring a gunboat to kill the fighters.
Bring fighters to kill bombers that can't kill anything because battleships and cruisers are already dead.
Gunboats are too much on the both sides.
They can massacre fighters (in large battles, not in solo fights, where 2 fighters can take down a gb), and can kill cruisers easily.
Cruisers are of very little use in large battles.
So, their refire could be boosted so they have a exact role in fights.

my mistake. These are the corects stats for
Corsair Gunboat 0/8 turets
480 cargo 115000 hull 350 nano/shields
At this dimension he can recover FULL his shields/hull for 3 or 4 times in battles with only 350 nano/shilds. This is important to, becose a bigger ship runout of shileds after one recover for shields and for hull after 1-2 recoveries. And recive same or even more damage becose of his 0 maneuvrability in turet mode.
