Ah, now that could explain it. I'm certainly not anywhere near a good enough pilot to check to see if kit has been blown off my enemy while I'm fighting. If I do that I end up dead. It's like typing and fighting. Not good for my health.

Sometimes you don't have to. Like when you hit a small ship with Supernova. I remember that once I've blown 4+ pieces of equipment off Tic's bomber before it exploded. Funny duel at Dabadoru long way back.

Quote:I've had this with SNACs on caps, I've clearly hit them, but nothing registered. And again, I once saw someone SNAC a deshielded fighter, but they claim they missed, and the fighter is fine.

Yeah, its not just with razors, Ive actualled SNACK'ed a cap before and the effect didnt even show (the pretty blue explosion)

In other words, both situations are prolly caused by lagz0r

So far as a fighter, bomber or freighter is concerned, no equipment is going to withstand a clean hit from a razor (with the exception of the capital thruster and drone guns). That doesn't mean to say the victim will explode, but they should certainly lose a good part of their vessel.

I'm flying around in a gb with a snipe loadout consisiting of pulses and razors. Then in a fight, I target someone and fire a pulse + razor combo at him in. He's in a bomber/ fighter. The pulses hit, and then a second or less later the razors hit as well.

I see the shield go down to the pulses and then the razors hit the deshielded bomber/ fighter a second or less later. I see the razors impact on the hull. Yet the bomber/ fighter doesn't go poof. instead, it just flies on like the razors were never fired. no damage, nothing.

At first I thought i must have accidentally shot a gun or something. but this happens to me a lot. too often to be gun hits.

So whats the deal? is it lag that causes the razors to hit the shield on my target's side because it hasn't registered the pulse hit yet or something?

Is there someway to fix this without having to wait over a second to fire the razors after the pulses? since by that time the dehielded target is evading like crazy.

Same here

Ye.. i thinks its that server register those hits as if they hit at the same time and we know that even starflea can survive dozen heavy mortars IF the hit at the same time... Lag seems to be worseing this...

Gun damage detection is handled clientside. If you see your own guns hit, they will do damage unless the other guy's shield has popped back up and the server has that information before your gun damage info gets through. Or you hit a piece of equipment.

If you are a 3rd party observer then you might see strange things happen, yes - but the guns will almost always do damage if the guy at the gun sees them hit. (with the shield-up exception, the target being dead already, FLHook protection, etc.)

Dashiell wrote that he did wait over a second, so unless there was some significant ping delay somewhere, the shield couldn't get in the way, leaving equipment hit as the only plausible explanation. If this happens in a test fight, ask the target to check his weapons&external equipment damage. I am 95% certain that armor upgrades increase resistance of mounted stuff vs. projectile weapons, which is why a lot of the stuff can survive a mini/GB razor hit.

There might be a slight error in hit detection caused by random server behaviour, the kind of behaviour that registers a kill by you from across the sector.

Another explanation, already described, would be firing both your pulse and razors within a period of time where the shield is still deactivating. It happens, because Microsoft thought having two completely discrete health bars was a good idea.

That kind of problem is nothing new. Usually happens when the delay between the pulses and razors isn't long enough for them to be registered as 2 different attacks. Happened to me aswell, made me say WTF aswell. Just try to make the delay between the 2 shots a tad longer.

Alternatively, we can make the shield and hull accumulative - which means if the damage of the shot is over that of the remaining shield it does damage to the hull minus the amount absorbed by shield.

But realistically, we'd probably need to source code for this.
