Another ten minutes had passed and it was Marcias turn to find one of the settlements in the south. She checked the radiation meter and then started to walk through the rain, into a southern direction.
After some minutes of walking she looked back to the place where they ejected her, but she wasnt able to spot anything, not even the slightest hint of human beings.
The only things she saw were trees and some fog in holes.
Remembering the things a Zoner told her about radiation, when she visited the Freeport in Omega 3 she said to herself. "I should stay out of those holes, I'd bet that they have more radiation then everything else here in them."

She checked the radiation meter again, just to be sure that everything was alright, as alright as something could be at such a place.

A few minutes and roughly 2 kilometers later she reached a small glade with the remnants of three houses and a small barn. Everything seemed empty and left, the houses had holes in the roofs and one of them already collapsed. From what she could judge the barn would follow soon.
She continued to walk to the other side of the glade, as she realized a pair of green glowing eyes directed at her from the inside of a house. She started to run as fast is she could in the suit that she received at Zhukovsky and the eyes were gone, she left them behind.

And yet again Marcia checked the radiation meter, the Zoner told her that its possible that the amount of radiation could change rapidly, depending on the surface. Everything seemed to be good.

While looking at the small device she moved on, into southern direction. Then suddenly she saw something around 10 meters away. It looked a bit like a bear, but with a orange fur, which had a few dark red spots in it. The animal didnt move, so she prepared the AK to be ready to fire if it would stand up, but it didnt.
She stood right next to it when she realized that the dark red spots were nothing else then blood, caused by roughly 10 centimeter deep wounds.

"Great, if something can do this to such a big animal I better try to avoid it..." She moved on, her hand on the trigger all the time. She didnt want to end up as a lunch snack for some strange creature that most likely wouldnt even have a name.

Junior Lt. Vilen Helbrecht was waiting for his turn, spending his time in assembling and disassembling his pistol and rifle. His life would depend on them working flawlessly, so he did not want to take any chances.

He was counting minutes, too. Finally, he heard:

- Helbrecht. Move.

Without a glance back he moved out, used the compass to get the idea of the right direction, and moved on.

...moving carefully, stopping, laying down and inspecting the ground before him every 15 minutes, he encountered no serious wild-life by now. But now it was getting dark, and predators usually come out in night. Well, unless radiation killed or mutated them all.

Turning night-vision goggles on was a big help indeed. Shadows around him became green and glowing. He spent half an hour making a "tent" of twigs, leaves and any other materials he could find and get a normal radiation level from. Hopefully, that will protect him from detection. Still, he used some junk he found to create a simple alarming traps, made of mostly wires and tin cans. Time for the rest. As long as he didn't get the evidence of predators hunting more in the daylight than in darkness of night, he wasn't going to move at night. Turning the night-vision goggles off to preserve the battery and placing both the pistol and AK right next to him, he started to have his uneasy rest, ready to get up and fire at anything that moves around him.

Provost Marshal Colonel Vicenta Gonzalez whistled jauntily to herself as she donned her radiation suit. "You ready to go?"

"You say you are a competent driver, yes?" the gunner in the passenger's seat of her jeep said.

"Oh, yes. Very competent. Haven't accidentally crashed once." She climbed into the driver's seat.

"Oh, goo- wait, accidentally crashed?"

VROOOOOOM! Vicenta floored it, and the jeep barrelled down the cargo hold and launched off the ramp, soaring out over the wastes of Jiangxi before arcing down towards the ground, the gunner screaming the whole way. Oh yes. It was time to show the nuggets what live fire really meant...

His Watchful Eye looked on as the 'Nuggets' as the Fighter Corps called the recruits began their journeys, beside His Watchful Eye's chair stood a young Colonel of Rheinland decent which showed in his blonde hair, blue eyes and rough facial features, the insignia on his collar showed he worked for the Ministry of Truth, both gazed at the screen, a smirk on His Watchful Eye's face as he stroked the Cat in his lap gently, causing the white-haired critter to purr in affection towards it's master.

"So he has sent them to JiangXi for training." He mused, rubbing the ears of the cat gently, causing the happy Cat to rub it's head against his hands as they caressed it's sensitive ears. His Watchful Eye shifted his gaze very slightly to the Colonel with a frown.

"What of the Warner Estate?" he asked, an eyebrow raised in question at his subordinate. "I trust that all the files on site have been taken to the Bunker beneath?" he harshly asked, causing the younger man to flinch slightly.

"Our teams managed to get Lt.Colonel Warner's more sensitive files, however we were unable to complete it before the Nuggets started so we had to leave some of the files above ground in the Estate..." He nervously reported. His Watchful Eye had a deadpan expression upon his face as he shook his head.

"It matters not, our relationship with the Lt.Colonel will not be harmed by anything left that our little friends find, the Bunker can only be accessed by members of the Commissariat or our 'friend'." His Watchful Eye stated before relaxing deeper into his chair, his eyes watching the screen carefully.

"It is unlikely they will stop by, but if they do...Release them, after-all...It's survival training." he commented, a smile crossing his shadowed face as they observed the Nuggets...His Watchful Eye saw all...Heard All...

Enrico watched the last few jumps, and stepped aside when it was finally time for Vicenta to begin her chase, driving the BJ2 assualt Jeep right off of the gunboat without bothering to wait for it to land. The crashing sound of the jeep hitting the muddy ground, the gunner clinging on for dear life, as the crazed Provost Marshal launched the Jeep into a frantic spin around in the mud, taking off in the general direction of the only bridge leading across the canyon to the south of the drop zone.

Shaking his head as he buttoned up the rear ramp, he caught sight of the flashing message light. Scooping up a TAC headset he slipped it on, heading back towards the cockpit of the aggressive gunboat.

"We're getting a distorted transmission from regional headquarters," Vance reported, as Enrico made his way forward, the Gunboat already sweeping up to chase the jeep, Vance piloting.

Enrico slid into the gunnery station, "any idea what they're trying to say?" he asked strapping into his seat.

"No clue, too distorted from the radiation," Vance said sweeping the gunboat out over the broad canyon, it's spot lights going on as it swept along the edge, before turning and blasting further East.

"Probably a storm warning," Enrico said, shifting in his seat, looking at the radiation scrambled sensors. "We should probably take a sweep over to Regional HQ when we're sure everyone's on their way."

"Aye sir, moving to NAV-2," Vance called, sweeping the gunboat up and over the bridge, to keep overwatch, Enrico with his clipboard scrawling notes as he watched the training exercise.

Elias jogged through the muddy forest, twelve nuggets and a combat jeep. That was a pretty good batch, too bad most of them were probably going to die. JiangXi wasn't exactly renown for going easy on people, especially not once the dead of night set in.

He slid down into the mud and under brush, lifting his rifle up as he scanned the trees around him, watching as one of the nuggets was frantically running away from a Bun-bun... the fauna on the planet, for some sick and bizarre reason, had been named after cutesy woodland creatures.

The carnivorous Bun-bun, Teddies, Mr. Mole... now that one was truly terrifying... of course there were hooters and flappers in the night... and that was if they were lucky and the wild turkeys weren't about... as big as T-Rexs and far more viscous.

No JiangXi was not a forgiving place to be, and for most of the nuggets, it was going to be their last night alive.

Elias made to get up, and flattened himself again quickly as somewhere deep in the forest, the roar of a jeep engine could be heard. The devil woman was trying to scare them, the problem was all she was going to accomplish was stir up something large, mean, and definitely aggressive.

The Lieutenant didn't really want to hang around and find out what that was, he was up and sprinting again, weaving through the trees again, heading for the bridge that would take him across the southern canyon and back towards his base camp, at the edge of the old Warner estate.

Putting distance between him and the dead men, and then warming himself by a rousing fire...

His tracking devices had come to nothing. They had lost track within Miller moving two miles from the others, so he wouldn't be able to keep his own eye on them. But at least he'd have some warning if any approached. He'd set the device to beep if any of the tracking devices came close.

He tried to stare across the ravine that lay before him, but couldn't. There was no light on the other side, nothing to indicate distance. He didn't know how far it went, or even if there was another side. It may actually be a cliff.

He couldn't do it now, he finally decided. He needed food, rest and light if he was going to pass this obstacle. He moved back to the trees, moving from clear ground to vine-covered sludge in an instant. He needed a small patch of land to set up his "sea bag", which was an unmarked weatherproof sleeping bag. And leaves to camouflage the area.

He found the perfect place after five minutes. No, an even better location. They (the drunkards in Kalashnikov) had said there were still ruins of civilisation on the planet, and Miller vowed to trust them more from now on.

It was a farm house, part of its roof collapsed into the house. Apart from that, it looked stable enough to house him for the night. He trudged toward the door, and pushed it open. The hinges whined, then gave way, the door collapsing to land flat inside what remained of the house. The floorboards were rotten and what must have once been a staircase had become nothing more than a mound of rubble. The collapsed section of the roof allowed the rain water to flood in.

The first floor of the house could provide some refuge. The stairs may have collapsed but it would be easy enough to reach. Miller climbed onto the mound that was formerly a staircase and launched himself at the closest piece of the first floor. His fingers contacted the wooden floor and he began to pull himself up and onto the first floor.

Eventually, after his poor display of clambering up the wall to the first floor, he was in what remained of a bedroom. A very small bed occupied a corner, with a crib on the other. A bedroom for two children. A teddy bear sat ominously on the bed, staring at where he had climbed up from as if left as a guardian.

He set up his camp, removing various supplies from his backpack. Sea bag, cooker, water purifier and container, and a ready meal. His water purifier had been catching water all day and feverishly pumping out hopefully drinkable water. He'd have to take the chance. He filled his two canteens, drank some and poured the rest in with his ready meal. It required water before it could be cooked.

He ate in silence, fearing attracting some sort of predator. Or predators. He finished his food and hid the waste away in his bag so there was no unneeded smell. Then, after setting a few traps surrounding his position, he put his head on his pillow and began recording.

'Entry eleven. I'm just about to get some rest now. I've lain several traps and hidden myself well, which should hopefully get me through the night. Why do I have a sudden craving for sausages and baked beans?'

The traps were insurance, but he was a light sleeper when he needed to be. Anything approaching would wake him.

[19:25:12] Johnny (Jam): Tomtom, I will beat you with a spoon.

Vilen was sleeping, and it was really no surprise, given the conditions, that his dreams were filled with the multfilm he has seen long ago. He woke up a few times, but it were just the nerves.

After several miles Alexander Vorobiev stopped running to catch his breath, and to check the contents of his backpack. He lit his lighter and started to examine things in the backpack.
"Night vision goggles, should put them on, some light sticks, boots, gas mask, a rope, i'm sure glad i took that with m'-"

Alex's thought was interrupted by another strange sound coming from the darkness, so he put out the lighter, and decided to use the night vision goggles.
"Allright, maybe it was just the wind" Alex thought "right, got to wear the combat boots quick, otherwise my legs will freeze, and continue heading south."

With the much warmer and more durable boots on, Alex stood up, and was ready to continue running, as the radiation sensing equipment started bleeping again.
"What the...? I have to get out of here, now!"

Alexander started running again, and soon he was able to see a little bit of light, so he turned off the goggles, and kept running.

Once he got to the spot where the surroundings could be seen, Alexander saw that ahead of him was an old farm of some sort, the only problem was that between him and the farm was a canyon with clouds shielding the bottom from being seen.
Something moved in the nearby bushes, so Alex took the AK-74 gun and turned to them. A human-like shape was approaching him from the bushes.
"Stay right there, or I will shoot you" Alex shouted at the shape coming his way
"Khelhjnb kfhdsff shfhfhfhfh foood" the shape replied in what appeared to be it's own language
"I'm not taking my chances against that" Alex said to himself and shot 8 bullets into the chest of the mysterious shape.
"Kheljnb kkshh bleah" the shape was making sounds after falling to the ground
Alex walked closer to the mysterous shape, saw that it had once been a human, but now had mutated into... something because of the radiation
"Burn you, урод, you" Alex said before putting the two remaining bullets in it's head, and reloaded the AK.
Alex took a cigarette out from his pocket and lit it, he was exhausted, and his shoulders were really showing him what pain is all about. The sight itself was epic, a man, with some anti-radiation equipment, sitting on an edge of a canyon, smoking, like a little lit match....
"I should check how deep it is" Alexander decided to take a rock and throw it into the canyon "one...two...three seconds. Where's the bang? Probably clouds shielding the sound from coming up," Alex was ready to get up once again, he had finished smoking, and a sound of the rock hitting the ground reached him "what was that..? like thirty seconds? Well, i don't want to fall in there anyway, who knows what lives down there, if I manage to survive, but now i have to get over it, not think about falling in it. I've got a plan..."
He took the rope out from his backpack, tied a rock to it, and tried to throw it to the other side. First time he missed it by 5 metres at least, so he tried to throw it again. Missed again, then Alexander remembered a technique olympic sportsmen used to use at throwing a bag. He spun for two seconds, and then let the rock go, this time he hit the perfect spot, the rock along with the rope tied around a metal post near the edge on the other side, so Alex tied the rope to a tree on his side of the canyon, took a short piece of rope and thought:
"I should be able to slide across using the rope, as the other side looks slightly lower than this one, but the rope would probably catch fire, i need something else, that wont catch fire that easily..." Alex spotted the empty AK-74 mag on the ground "this wont catch fire, i'll use this one, yeah.. Stopping shouldn't be much of a problem as the difference between the two sides shouldn't be that big"
Alexander tied the mag to the rope, took his backpack and everything else and began to slide across the canyon, using the ropes, but he accelerated much faster then he thought, and soon Alex crashed into the other side of the canyon at a decent speed.

Alexander almost fell in the canyon, but held on, and screamed in pain so loud that multiple echoes could be heard. He barely could climb onto the other edge of that canyon. Then Alex took another piece of the rope and tied his right hand to his chest in a 90 degree angle, it was obvious that nearly all bones in his right hand were broken, and tying up his hand was the only way Alex could bear the pain. His right hand was not to be used for shooting anymore.
"Can't... let pain stop me..." Alex repeated to himself while being on his knees "Get up, Sascha, you don't want to die here, you are a survivor!" -he continued while getting up...
With a facial expression of pain like no other you'll ever see, Alex started walking to that old farm, and the radiation meter started bleeping again
"Oh, no, not again!"

Chun Ki Ling, a now decorated soldier, stood ready at the door of the Social Credit. Many had gone before him, his superiors in their wisdom had decided that since "Ling-Ling" had done such a good job of helping retake Gordok - He should be the last to disembark.

"Hrrmph. This gun's rusty, well - At least they let me take my Jian."

He checked his gun and ammo - He also checked the little protection he had from the radiation. JiangXi was his family's home before the Phantom's bombardment. Only his sister and him had survived the attack. The rest of the family were long gone - forgotten memories of a dead world. He looked up, the counter was nearly at Zero. One of his superiors, Vinceta Gonzalez - was behind him, and was revving a jeep. It struck Ling, that perhaps this was not going to be a fair trial.

"Ling, you're up. Try to live - MOVE!"
"For the revolution!"

He hit the turf, and immediately sprinted along the beaten track. There appeared to have been a number of people whom had gone ahead of him - And the night had set it. His superiors must have wished him dead, for starting his trial in the dark would surely have killed a normal man. Ling however, was not normal. His fellow recruits had noticed this by now, his superiors revelled in it. The man was a pure through and through soldier. You tell him to jump, he would jump immediately as high as he could. He didn't question an order, he didn't care of the consequences - He did exactly what he was told, to the letter.

He also had very good tenacity, determined to the last. He was not one to give up. As such, behind everyone else - and with an ominous jeep revving behind him - He ran and ran through the night and through the cold, depressing rain.

"WRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRGGGHHHH!"

A scream of some diabolical beast in the distance. Ling came to an abrupt halt and the adrenaline kicked in. He had no idea how long he had been running, but was the noise close - or far?

"Come on... Come on..."
"WRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRGGGHHHH!"

It ran out from the bushes and stood right in front of him, a beast likened to an old Sol Black Bear. This bear however, glowed red in the eyes and it's fangs were long and terrifying. It's fur was thick and paws huge. It was obviously highly aggressive. Ling afforded himself a small smile, a mere 10 meters separated them but it was more than enough. Ling cocked his weapon and shot creature dead between the eyes. It snarled and cried as it went down with it's dying breath.

"This was home beast. Was. I am sorry, but it is either you or me - And now I must disrespect you by removing your fur. Forgive me."

He unsheathed his Jian and began skinning the bear. Ling knew that whatever trial's the rest of JiangXi had for him, a thick fur such as this would be highly valuable. Not in the least - Keeping him warm as the rain became more heavy, and the night more dark.

"Here's a good a place as any to rest. An hour is ample time, but first...."

He took out a small piece of rope, and tied to it a grenade. Wrapping the rope around two trees and placing the grenade in the skinned beast - He fashioned a small booby trap. Enough to keep anything from coming his way along the beaten track.

Chun looked around at what was his home planet, and took a small sip of his water bottle. Today was the first in probably many days of trials. He had to ration himself carefully. He had to remain alert always. He smiled again, he was strangely going to enjoy this
