If it were me, I'd say no unless it were very well done and it were an eccentric faction. If, say, the Gaians were to liberate a Dr. Moreau-esque man-animal which wanted to try and do something, then this might be somewhat acceptable. However, the current atmosphere of "I am a cat person who flies a ship." is stupid for the Freelancer universe where even sentient AI are outlawed.
