I'm voting yes - the system does what it is intended to do, it reduces the heavy focus on mining, and gently nudges people to other minable systems. It reduces the "50% of all mining happens in Dublin" focus - which was getting out of hand and causing a lot of problems.

As for people who want it off... try to understand the reasons for doing this:
- Lots of people all mining the same stuff.
- Lots of pirates all coming after the same miners.
- Lots of Q_Q from both sides due to bad behaviour from both ends.

Unless you have an alternative solution to disperse mining activities a bit, you don't really have much of a point in saying "no".

The fields should be undepleteable, because the notion that the levels drop denotes a permanent drop, not a temporary one, there isnt some days lots of gold, and other days no gold, once it drops it should stay dropped, and once its all gone then it should stay all gone.

otherwise make it permanent.

Well, I mainly meant it makes sense to have it in an OORP sense, to spread people around.

I mean, some way of telling whether or not a field was depleted would probably actually help spread people around. Because the difference between a depleted field and just bad luck with the last few rocks isn't that great, so having some way of telling whether or not it's depleted will let people know, and move on to a different location, much faster, spreading everyone out.

Yup. Maybe they will stop mining non stop, and only mine if they need a little cash. By little i mean under 100mil. Not a new capVIII BS.

You are right. When depleted it should stay depleted. It would not come back. So once gold is gone? It is gone. No more mining, and move on. Great Idea. I think i will make a vote.

... if you want realism, destroyed ships should stay destroyed, so grey out the respawn button. Without fuel you're not moving anywhere, so everyone better have some H available. What else? Fighter colliding with a bigger ship just kasplodes. Do not pass damaged hull, go directly to kaboom. What else? No more docking for Battleships with anything smaller then a shipyard or planet.

Yea. Let's go for true realism in Freelancer. It'll be... Fun.

It doesn't make sense for people to be able to reengage, since they're dead or their ship is destroyed permanently. Realism doesn't factor into this.

If we make exploding ships stay exploded, then sure, remove depletion.

But even EVE, which does have exploding ships stay exploded, has depleting fields which later regenerate. It's necessary for game balance. Saying we shouldn't add this feature because resources don't regenerate in real life is pointless. You want realism, get into the mining business instead of playing a video game that exists for entertainment.

I say let them deplete and regenerate. Also as I said earlier - let the regen be open so that given enough negligence over time - the first guy to check it out gets filthy rich filthy quick.

As per the drain time - No way around it but observing the activity. Carefully.

I really like the concept, field depletion could add to the RP available, and for the "unrealistic" complaints, it could work as the discovery of new viens. But I think it has been implemented badly, it has really hurt factions based around mining - garda has been disbanded. I think ore prices should be RAISED to balance the lower supply of ore, and I think the fields become depleted too fast.

An idea I had, was that the fields would alwyas keep their base rate, but the more people mining one field, the lower drops each one got; so for instance one player mining a field drop rate of 10. 2 people mining, drop rate of 8, three people; droprate of 7 ect.

This would allow for there to always be SOME mining going on - and so available rp for mining and counter mining factions, but spread the mining out when it gets busy - "oh no that ones taken, lets mine omega instead"

This would also give a reason for the IMG/BMM and other mining companies to have conflict, as they are supposed to in RP, in the old mining mod they would more often ally against pirates.
