I prefer physical retail, because it's nice to own things, and re-installation if I reformat is less of a pain
Also, after spending 20 hours downloading the game, I don't want to spend another 6 updating the game.
And I've had a few instances where the game doesn't install properly, which doesn't happen as much with physical media. And if the Steam servers are down it always seems to be when I want to play. If I want to wait for a server to be up so that I can play a game, I'll play a MMO.
The "inconvenience" of a slower download/install of a digital media purchase is offset by both the lack of a need to keep the damned DvD and the often lower costs.
Then again with the new internet-focused gaming world, studios like EA and Ubisoft are increasing the "You must be connected to the internet at all times to play our games or we'll murder you in your sleep" mentality that is infuriating to many.
Since Lithuania is in second place by the internet speed in the world and probably one of leading by the high prices of game disks most of lithuanians either download games or use digital distribution.
I have ~40 games on steam where packs were bought in those holiday discounts (-50%, -70%...). So where I paid ~150 euros for all those games on steam, I could have gotten only 2 or 3 game disks in my local shop.
Choice is obvious.
Can't wait for Optic Fibrez! :yahoo:
My town has been chosen for the test site of the NBN in Aussie!
At the moment my net is:
As for steam up until last year it failed me all the damn time
Downloads would just fail and go at 20 kbps (which took me about 6 weeks to download the Orange Box the only game i've ever brought on steam)
But i still think its waaay cheaper to get stuff on DVD
Even though the Aussie dollar is stronger :)
EDIT: And Ping seems to be a huge issue here.......
I've downloaded a couple games. Mass Effect and Assassins Creed. Much easier to buy these older games online than try to hunt them down in a software store.
