I like the second one more. However, the same problem with the pic as Anomander did (I mean that guy with red eyes and gasmask). I think, you should use any kind of downloadable font, not the Windows generic one. It's kinda nice. Keep it up.

I would suggest you to try GIMP out. It's totally free picture editing software. You can make pretty much of stuff once you understand how to work with it. It's a nice tool for beginner.
