Sure they started out as a Punk-Band, though more as the type of Fun-Punk as really serious stuff, not saying various of their texts ain't having a serious essence. But as it's with most punk musicians, when they get the commercial success, they most likely stop being "Punk" and are more focused on actual "commercial" music that is selling better and reaching out for a broader audience.
But also as people get older, and likely more mature, so is their once labeled "punk-music" changing.
Same example here'd be Die Toten Hosen, which sure had their roots with Punk-Rock music.

Though I must admit, the live orchestral versions of their old songs I like more, especially the Unplugged CDs, from both of said bands.

Mind the tunes I linked for example are not labeled Punk, but R&R Realschule.

Also, as I called DTH ... and they ask themselves if that's still Punk, or how one'd call that... Helden und Diebe

Sorry if i have to spoil your image but "Die Ärzte" started in 82 when "Punk" became popular and they never realy had an worldwide impact.

So certainly not "best Band of the world" not even "best Punk Band of the world".

There is another Band that started Punk 1974 already and is still doing it.

So sorry i have to correct you... the Crown is definatly held by another (Punk)Band.

DÄ are trying to be too funny for my taste. Can't stand most of their music for more than a single play. Sure, they have their good stuff too, but it's pretty rare and widely spread over their CDs.

DTH have the overall more serious lyrics and hence are my favourites. And yes, I'm aware of the Bommerlunder-song and don't really like it (Much like Campino stated that he doesn't really like it that much either anymore).

They call themself the best band of the world... No lie, i guess, even if there is a bit irony in it...

It's great when you get into a band like Cody has here and there are some good ones, Deine Schuld
is my fav too, as for the crown going to The Stranglers because they were formed in 1974
and Jet black being an old git?:P
i mean the original man in black being Mr Johnny Cash was a well known punk rocker! and if Die Ärzte
is classed as the best by their fans great, same for Strangler fans and "The Damned" fans like myself
who think they are the best punk band in the world. Infact! they are the best punk band in the world,
1st to get a contract, record a single and album, tour the USA, split and reform, ripped off for the last 40
years and still going strong...but Die Ärzte are a hard working group with a lot under their belt and deserve
to be classed as the best by the ones who support them, i might even give them a bit support myself & buy into them:cool:
