Ah. Lag. The guy noticed your incoming fire, changed course, -your- client got notified late of the course change by the opposing player (overloaded connection maybe?) and the game shows erratic movement as it tries to more or less fluently orient the ship to it's new position and course.

It's lag, either on your end or that of your opponent.
