My experience:

I was dumb...I've given loans for newcomers after some discussions since they looked like thrustable. Never got any money back. There were 2 mills, 20 mills, 50 mills. Doesnt care, since just virtual money and its not about the money...its about behaviour. So from my side, no more free cokkie for anybody what I made by my time... Sad but true story.

Ironically I find myself giving out a few free credits to people who DON'T ask for it. Half of them aren't even talking to me. Just low levels that I want to give a hand.

Yeah, I usually reward low-level players that I see doing praiseworthy things. Like a Starflier-Rhino-Starflier convoy. Or really nice roleplay.

Everytime, I'm playing a ship which has rank 90, I get begging-messages once a hour.

Call me an idiot, but I even give them 'loans', which they promise to pay back after a few hours.

From about 20 loans I gave ingame, I got paid back about 5 or even less.

No, I'm not complaining. The thing is, that I don't like beggars who promise to pay the amount back, and don't do so in the end. They shall be honest at least.

If they're too lazy to work for their own money, they're definitely too lazy to work for your money.

Speaking of being lazy and not working for money, I always beg for cash on my LR Werewolf and people seem to be rather generous.

And no do not do in game loans, do them on the forums for insurance.

I tell them to go and read rules (providing a link to forums), also telling them to go to read mining guide in tutorials section, explaining them few things about /restart's, and providing link to Disco wikipedia.

If they're capable of going through my long talks (without any hint of me going to give them money), and still being polite, I'm giving them money or even, in pair of of occasions, if I liked em enough, gave them 20 mils to buy hegemon/heron, mined them full cargo of ore and they gave me money money back after they sold it.

I can understand them. Quite a while ago (early 4.84) I used to make ships with almost identical name as some well known ship. As I didn't care about RP and frankly didn't even know what it is most of the people got quite upset when they saw a lolwut running around with their name. So I extorted credits from them. When I got paid I deleted the ship. Surprisingly noone reported me. I got enough credits to buy a nice Viper Mk. II with descent equipment.

Give them two million credits. I don't see what the big deal is about imaginary money.
