A young man in his early thirties with a scar on his left cheek, leans back in his Captain's chair and rests his right cheek upon his right fist as his elbow rests upon the arm of the chair. The lights on the bridge of the dilapidated Thanatos class cruiser flicker and buzz as he sits up a bit and smirks, speaking softly "Well, she's seen quite a bit of action but we'll get her up to snuff again." he pauses for a moment and flicks a switch on the hand console next to him "Attention, this is Commander Jacob Graves to the crew of the "new" ship Erebus. I haven't had a chance to personally meet all of you; so I'll save the introductory speech for a bit later. Be advised, however, we will be approaching Sabah shipyard over Yuma shortly and all hands wishing for any RnR on the station are welcome to disembark, as well as, our guests who came with us to join in the project down on the planet. In the mean time, the Erebus will undergo a refit while in dry dock. That is all"
A young officer in his early twenties walks forward and clears his throat "Excuse me, sir." he speaks as the lights flicker again and some of the consoles seem to lose power for a moment.
He stands at attention near Grave's chair and salutes "Lt. David Flynn reporting for duty, sir!".
Grave's slowly turns in his chair and stands up slowly and politely returns the salute as the Lt. hands him his dossier "At ease, Lieutenant. So, you must be my new Tac/Comm officer and *reads for a moment* perhaps XO in training."
The Lt. nods slowly as Jacob begins to pace away from the chair and he follows. The Lt. speaks up "Sir, why isn't there more bridge officers? We seem understaffed."
Graves tilts his head over and looks to the Lt. "Good eye, Lieutenant. We are all a bit pressed for a crew considering our situation, much less officers, I myself am not exactly accustomed to a full command yet but we have to make do. So, you're going to have your work cut out for you Lieutenant Flynn. I hope you're up to the task."
Flynn follows behind him and nods "Yes sir. Another question, why are we using a Thanatos class cruiser to bring over team for this project on planet Yuma?"
Graves sneers slightly at the question as he stops at the edge of the bridge looking on the view screen as they close in on Sabah "Well Lieutenant, as we are pressed for resources, our transports become a bit more difficult to escort giving our limited number of fighters that are fully functional at the moment and our transports that are working are being utilized for more important resource gathering and trading. That being said, I figure it's easier to kill two birds with one stone; as it were. High profile people in a ship with plenty of guns and shields to get them from point A to B, seems far more efficient at the moment. Wouldn't you say?"
*the bridge shakes and lights flicker once again as the navigation officer announces that docking sequence with Sabah is complete*
Lt. Flynn nods in agreement "Yes sir. That logic does seem very sound" He glimpses at planet Yuma through the view screen "It seems we have our work cut out for us."
Graves looks over his shoulder to the young Lt. "Flynn, the Colonials are no stranger to hardships. Taming new "wild" worlds is in the history, the "blood" of the Colonials. Th...We thrive in such environments. We've done it before; we can do it again." *the comm sounds as the green light is given and the crew and passengers begin to disembark*
Lt. Flynn looks back at Commander Graves as he makes his way to the elevator with him and salutes "So say we all."
Graves smiles lightly and with soft yet stern salute replies "So say we all."
