A color change is basically a texture swap, nothing really changes. A HUD re-arrangement, however, can change the way you can fight in PvP, giving you an advantage (even if small) over those not using that HUD change. Most of them were designed for that purpose, if I recall. So, color change should be fine, rearrangement not so fine.
I now have an urge to finish the pink flower texture and mod that texture onto the HUD. If I can't have my flower-power Sabre, I can at least have this.
Only HUD mod I've ever seen was the star wars one which changed the icons were you check your inventroy and re to some characters from star wars universe. (Got me confused then again I was young and New to freelancer)
A HUD change would be cool but I'd then try to make mines themed to Metroid probably using the style n Samus's HUD or prime 1 pause menu or better prim e2 echoes pause menu.
Probably after the MOD course this summer I might be able to add a HUD color mod if it is allowed.

Gonna start anew...
There is a way to hack the targeting icons for color and shape, I haven't done it here because it does give you an advantage if you pick colors that pop better on the background (and don't get lost in all the red) and shapes that are easier to pick out and follow for some.
If it's legal I'll do it, if it's not everyone who does it should remove it.
But I doubt we will get a clear, concise answer to that.

I'm all for that, as long as it is well defined.
I can hack the hud, but I'm no good at writing a program to give defined choices, I couldn't even write "hello world" today more than a decade after my last programming class.
The only HUD modification i'd want to have, would be a "LOCK" function to that "Manure Bar" bar at the top of the screen. Just to lock it in the closed position, or to nuke it alltogether.
While i still click around now and then, i have been using F2, F3 and F4 ever since day one.
(by the way, it's "Maneuver Bar, i was just being sarcastic)
