I have a G400, it's essentially a (light) gaming mouse trapped in the body of an office mouse.

It's ok, but nothing more than that. Button placement isn't super-ideal (thumb buttons could be placed a tad bit better, DPI switch buttons are far from ideal too) and no indicator showing what DPI setting you are using. But it's cheap and definitely does the job. I actually thought about replacing my G400 with a SteelSeries Ikari Laser (they are roughly the same price).

Have you thought about a Logitech G9 if you've got money to spend? It has it all.

Too many buttons.

I just use a normal 3 button/scroll wheel mouse...

True, normally I'm used to less buttons, too.

However, I guess I'll make a compromise between price and features and take the G500. Though, I've once read that it has a predetermined breaking point at the cable...

Besides the mouse I'll probably get the Microsoft Sidewinder X4. (Didn't meant to go above ~80€ for both keyboard and mouse anyways.)

I have a G400.

I've had every cord mouse in the series beginning with the MX500.
Previously, I had a G5 but it sadly died when I moved.

The ergonomics are just perfect in my opinion, it's no wonder it's probably the only mouse that has remained exactly the same shape for at least ten years.

Sure there aren't that many buttons, and I could make use of more, but it's enough.

I have forward and back mapped to bats and bots, and scrollwheel push to dock.

The pricetag is attractive, too. I think mine was actually 29 99 €.

A G400 it'll be.

Only read good things about it.

I've been watching this thread too, but I'm planning on getting the 700. Nice to see some positive opinions on it!
Price tag isn't really an issue since I've been saving up just to buy some better peripherals; my 5-year old three-button wireless mouse just doesn't have the precision I need. While we're here... gaming keyboard suggestions?

Edit: plus there appears to be a Logitech sale on currently at their web store, at least on some of the mice.

I'll buy the Microsoft Sidewinder X4 for 40€.

However, if you're going to spend more money on it, you might check out the Logitech G110.

With the current sale, it appears that the G510 is available for only AU$ 10.00 more than the G110. I'm having a hard time distinguishing much difference between the two, except for the additional LED mini-display on the top of the G510.

Edit: The Sidewinder X4 doesn't look too bad either, but if I'm going to upgrade... why not do so in style? It's an investment in my recreational time, after all.
