Are there any post codes when the computer boots up? If something is wrong, you should hear a series of beeps. Then, look on the internet and see what that series of beeps means.

Either way though it sounds like your motherboard is pretty much done. It just happens after a while, to all motherboards.

Actually yes.I hear " couple " of beeps sometimes.

Its because one of my coolers isn't working and temperature of the system is 50 degrees celsius.

I am actually thinking of buying a second-hand laptop.

Laptops are in fact very bad for gaming, because it's practically impossible to properly cool them. I'd look into getting a cheap second hand desktop computer.

When your gaming your computer is under fairly heavy load, it needs to dissipate a lot of heat quickly. With a laptop, it generally doesn't dissipate fast enough, causing overheating, which will burn out the motherboard, hard drive etc. faster.

A desktop is worth it in the long run. Generally they are cheaper, and will be in good condition for years to come. Laptops, however, generally only last a few years. This is because the temps are usually too hot. This will also cause the laptop to work slower.

I would never, ever buy a second hand laptop because it could work fine, but it could be near the end of its life. You could only get a couple months out of it or you could get a year. You never know.

50 degrees isn't much is it? It should be okay till 100+ (regarding CPU).
Question is are those numbers real?
Check the thermal grease on your CPU. If there's none, you can use tooth paste instead, it works too.

About the coolers - does the BIOS say they don't work or did you see it yourself?
Actually, i don't even know what do you mean under the "system cooler". If it's the one built in the body (not PSU) - it's not so important. Remove the side cover if you think it's too hot inside.

My last computer had a very similar problem, and it was very similar specs compared to yours. The CPU was running hot, but I think I managed to get the temperature down on it, and it would still restart, which ruled out the CPU overheating.

I wasn't able to fix it (bought a new computer, needed an upgrade anyways), but I think I narrowed the problem down to one of two things. When I got my new PC, I had to put in a more powerful PSU for the video card, so I took the old and more powerful PSU (it didn't come in it originally, I put it in when I upgraded the video card) from my old computer and put it in the new one. As soon as I did, the new computer started restarting randomly like my old computer did.

However, there was another common denominator between both computers, I installed Freelancer off of my Freelancer disk (ironic, huh?) on both computers before the problem started on both... Luckily, I was able to send back the new computer and get another one of the same model. I really don't think it was the Freelancer disk, I think it was the PSU, but neither the old PSU or the Freelancer disk have touched the second computer I got sent. >_>

The problem also didn't fix when I just replaced the power supply, it would still randomly restart, so my theory on what caused it was this.

The power supply was faulty, and allowed power to surge into the motherboard, causing the motherboard to "break", possibly even by messing up some of the capacitors, burning them out or causing them to bubble up or however a capacitor breaks. I would say either get the motherboard checked out, and try to fix it, or buy a new motherboard and see if that fixes the problem. Of course, with replacing a motherboard comes a whole lot of other problems, mainly compatibility ones.

@Sava, I went to the BIOS and it says the System Cooler ( PSU Cooler ) is not working and thats why it beeps. But when I check it , it works well.

I also checked the CPU Cooler and it works fine. ( The one mounted on motherboard ) I know it works because I checked it myself and it also says in BIOS that its running ( 3700 RPM ) while system cooler has 0 RPM. ( meaning its not running )

One of my father`s friends is selling a decent PC very cheap.

Lenovo Penitum 4

Intel Processor 3,0 GHz
RAM 2.0 GB
VGA nVidia 128 MB
80 GB memory on Hard Drive
Asus Motherboard
Windows XP Operative System

I am actually thinking of buying this ( If I get the cash ).It will surely run FL and some newer games.I might try WoT and Alien vs Predator 2010 if I manage to buy that PC.Thanks for assistance.

You should be prepared to take all over again in the next year , the same problems if the second hand comp is older than 5 years .

Instead you could do :
- buy a new motherboard with ATA connection for your older HDD + onboard video
- buy 2 GB RAM , are cheap
- use the old DVD/CD/whatever - because you get an ATA MB
- choose either Intel (better) or AMD 2 core cheap CPU
- as an extra you can get a new case+PSU , even a cheap one would be way better thatn an old PC

As a note , even newer MB range includes ATA conection (not all offcourse) , i made my PC last year with an Core i3 CPU ( IGP only , no dedicated GPU) works more than fine .

Hey guys.

I am able to tell you that I am posting this from my " Idiotic Computer "

It turned out that my Graphics couldn't display the resolution and the refresh rate was at 85 Hertz.

I restarted my PC, pressed F8 and tried to boot to VGA Mode.It worked fine, I lowered the resolution to 800 x 600 and switched refresh rate from 85 Hz to 60 Hz.

It works pretty well now.I am going to replace the capacitor in a few days. The primary reason why my PC restarts( As I understand it now ) is because the Chipset is simply OVERHEATING due to capacitor problem.

Secondary reason is because I used to have a original Intel Celeron 2.0 GHz.My father went to the same computer technician and replaced my 2.0 with a 2.4 so now, some idiot went to my settings and made my processor overclock to 3.0 GHz ! ! !

So thats the another source of overheating.

Thanks for your help.Looks like the PSU isn't a problem at all.

It's an old system to be sure. I feel for you though. If it was any way feasible, I'd GIVE you my old comp....it works fine and just sits their collecting dust.

Specs are about the same as yours.

But, that isn't realistic.

You know building your own system with slightly outdated parts would be really really cheap.

If you can afford to fix that one, I almost guarantee you could build a better one for not much more money, especially if you reused some old parts (cd-rom, ram, hard drive, etc.)

If that simply isn't an option, take it back to the guy who screwed it up, because no amount of software wizardry will be able to save that I'm afraid.

EDIT: Hmmm, should have read the whole thread. Glad you got it fixed. See ya in space. Smile
