James looked at the man and back at the commissar taking the pistol "While it may churn my gut to do this Commissar, an order's an order, and spies are treated the same way by all."

James unlocked the safety and placed the gun at the mans temple, muttering "Find peace" as he pulled the trigger.

James handed the pistol back to the commissar.

"If he was indeed a spy, then so be it. However, I will not take any pleasure in the taking of a life" he finished.

The Commisar paused and stared at the dead spy for a few seconds, allowing the smoke to clear out.

"Nor does most people...."

The Commisar turned to a cabinet and retrieved a bottle of vodka and two shot glasses as the guards dragged the limp body out of the room.

"You see, we do not take pleasure in senseless killing. But we will do whatever it takes to get the job done." The Commisar explained as he started to pour the vodka into the glasses.

"You say you are a soldier by trade, but understand that every single pilot of the Coalition fighter corps fight for something greater than themselves."

Vorshevsky handed the applicant a shot of the vodka, but stared deep into his eyes before he let go. "One of the reasons we fight is for the unfortunate, for those who are stampeded and trampled upon by the corporations and the government."

"And most importantly.." The Commisar downed his shot glass. "We fight for each other, our brothers and sisters. Now lets see if you know some things West Point didn't teach you."

The Commisar started to pace back and forth behind the applicant. "One thing that all Coalition pilots value is self-sacrifice." The Commisar paused and faced James. "Do you know who Major Sean Lee was?"

Xu motioned for her to sit on the bloodstained chair.

"Seems I beat some sense into you."
He sat on the edge of the table once more.

"Corsairs are imperialistic. Not content with the dustball they are on, they spread out like cockroaches with their eyes set as far north as Honshu, as far East as Dublin and encompassing most of Bretonia and Rheinland. They will not stop there, oh no. Like all Empires, it will not see a border as a permanent fixture."
He picked up a stack of papers.

"They need to be put in their place. Next question: The Mollys are friendly with the Coalition. We support them and they allow us to use their bases. What if you find a Molly taxing a miner in Dublin? What if they're outside Dublin, what then?"

James looked at the commissar "To be honest commissar, I do not know who he is, however I would gather by what you say, that he gave his life for the Coalition, a hero" he said calmly.

"Self-sacrifice is also something we in Wraith valued highly, every one of us was willing to lay down his life for the others, we were a family of sorts, till that op, losing a family is never good" James said remorsefully.

"Brotherhood, we, I, will never leave a man behind, and as the Liberty Marines say, Semper Fidelis" James spoke, the remorse leaving his voice, instead, a new resolve leached into his voice.

"Regardless, I would like to hear about who Major Sean Lee was, it is better to listen and learn" James finished, downing the vodka and nodding in thanks.

The Commissar put down his glass of vodka and shook his head in dissapointment.

"You should really get to understand the history of the Coalition before you even attempt to join. You seem to have all the qualities and perks of a soldier, and you understand the value of brotherhood. Therefore I will give you one more chance."

Vorshevsky motioned to the guards, then handed James a red pass. "Head over the library down in Section C of the Trotsky, read up on some of our history. It should be labeled (Obsolete and Outdated, Refer to Tactical Centre), however there are a lot of old archives in there. Return to me when you know who Major Lee was."

As the guards started to escort James out of the room Vorshevsky called out to him, "I like you kid so don't screw up. I still have bullets in my gun comrade."

Masha sat as instructed and listened to Xu's questions. The throbbing in her skull had dulled a bit, but she sensed more to come. The Molly question was difficult, but not impossible. Biach sat perfectly still, keeping her eyes upon her favored spot as she spoke.

"Da, Comrade Commisar..." Masha felt the blood now course down her tunic... it's progress unchecked.

"We do support the Mollies, yes... but our presence in both situations does alter things a bit. We must always remember to behave as if civilian eyes are upon us. In this situation, the Mollies, within their own borders are acting in accordance with their own internal codes. We do not involve ourselves. However, outside of their area of "influence" it becomes a bit more complex. In both cases they are taxing miners. Assuming they are taxing the only mined commodity that they have sway over, gold... the situation is wholly internal. Even outside of Dublin. However, a quiet word to the Molly may be in order, outside of Dublin, Comrade Commisar" Masha concluded, noticing Xu's arm twitch. She braced herself and awaited his next directive.

Hours later James returned with his escort, a slightly wearied look on his face.

He looked at the commissar. "Major Sean Lee was a hero of the Civil War" he began.

"During a rescue mission for one Dr XiaoBei, Major Sean Lee fought a rearguard action to hold off Volkhan Loyalist reinforcements" James continued, a hint of admiration lacing his voice.

"He paid the ultimate price, but this sacrifice allowed the rescuers to escape, and indirectly, the subsequent victory over the Volkhan regime" he stated solemnly.

"I'm not sure if you have any form of equivalent Commissar, but had the man been Liberty Navy, I'm certain he would have received the Medal of Honor" James remarked, the admiration returning.

"Major Sean Lee, was a prime example of the self-sacrifice you speak of Commissar. I would have acted in the same way he did" he began again.

"There is no more noble way to die than to lay your life down for others" James finished, solemnity filling his voice.

The Commissar nodded.

"Major Lee went on to posthumously recieve the Hero of the Revolution medal. It is a shame though, he was a great pilot and friend."

A few seconds of silence filled the room as Vorshevsky started to think.

"Alright I'm done with you, go outside to the lobby and await further instructions. We won't kill you.....yet"

As James Blackburn left Commissar Vorshevsky returned to his desk, took another shot of vodka, and yelled in the intercom.

"NEXT"

Xu holstered his pistol.

"Better."
He pointed at the door.

"The Mollys are useful. They provide a natural barrier between Bretonia and ourselves. When it comes to Dublin security, we must ignore the situation and turn a blind eye. Outside of Dublin however, as defenders of the working people, we must shoo away the Molly pirate. Wait in the lounge, you're time may come."
After the recruit had left, he poked his head out the door once more.

"Next!"

"Da, Comrade Commisar, " She answered Xu, without emotion.

Masha Biach rose and spun on her heel. The door seemed further away than it had when she entered the room, not that she would allow her body to betray her at this point. She moved back into the lounge and took a seat. Only then did she retrieve a small wipe from her pocket and attend to her wound. Xu had made himself clear in his last statement. Perhaps her time may come. Masha willed herself to not read too much into Xu's questioning. She needed to prepare for her next directive. She closed her eyes for a moment, ignoring the looks from the other candidates in the room. Nothing she could relay to them would help them in that room. Nothing...
