They'll have to have new ships, since I doubt anyone else will lend them any. I'm already guessing at how they'll look/ I'm imagining a fleur-de-lys being used in a similar fashion to the Liberty star.
I can't see how a new House is going to arrive.. the only humans that left Sol were the 5 sleeper ships we all know and love, the probably-died-in-transit Atticus Rockford and a handful of Coalition intelligence agents board the Hispania.
I think the French end up being a big pirate faction like Corsairs and Outcasts. A new house is pretty much one of the things that would destroy a part of the vanilla feeling which Igiss tries to preserve.
Just finished my exams and I come to disco and see this!
So, am I right in assuming that the *ahem* french *stiffles laughter* are anti-alliance minded? Also, if a new faction is being implemented could that mean that the SCRA could possibly get a tag that goes with our RP somewhere in the mix?
This would give the SCRA somewhere to belong in Sirius and clean a hell of a lot up at the same time. No Coalition running around with Xeno tags etc etc. The Xeno tag just gets new players confused with our RP and is as frustrating for them as it is for us and any admins that get involved.
Before anyone jumps on a high horse somewhere, I'll say now that I'm in no way making this new house about the SCRA, but just suggesting that with the new house there is an opportunity to make a few things right and easier in the long run for everyone involved.

I personally do not like the extended version of the Freelancer intro. I mean, the only survivor in the entire of the Sol system after the sun gets blown up is an Alliance member? And a General at that. Not to mention the Nomads having sun-destroying weapons. Clearly the original developers didn't like it in the end either, since it was cut. Nothing at all, not even Pluto, would survive Sol going supernova.
Either way, assuming the events of the extended Freelancer cutscene never happened is much better and also leaves plenty more avenues open (such as the coalition, as people have said). Who knows, the French/new house/whatever could have retreated into the Kuiper Belt or the Oort cloud at the edges of Sol system to harvest resources and build a sleeper ship in secret and away from prying eyes.
And... where's that going to be? All parts of Sirius are quite cramped with sytems... northwestern taus maybe?
I think it'll have to go there. Everywhere else is full.

Unfortunately, the ext. intro did happen, as you can see in my next quote from Igiss' first post:
Quote:2) - Why French and not another nation?
First, in the dev commentaries placed on an extended Freelancer edition (don't remember how precisely it was named), devs declared that extended into is part of the story. So, it's part of Discovery story as well.
And since the only survivor of the explosion in Sol was on the dark side of Pluto, it's very unlikely that anything closer to the Sun has survived, don't you think?
This is why we don't have China, Russia etc.
Now, to the Alliance. Scandinavian countries didn't even have their own fleet. France and Italy had, and Starlancer intro says that their fleets were destroyed (I watched the SL intro before writing the story, and reviewed many other materials available). It doesn't mean, however, that nations were destroyed. Also, we've got information that 8 sleeper ships were launched, but 3 of them (French, Italian and Australian) didn't break through Coalition blockade. What happened back in Sol will not be revealed in this version (except for some hints). However, the French managed to build a second sleeper ship independently from their allies, in a remote hidden location.
Hispania... well, having Outcast Navy and Corsair Police would be a bit strange. If the nations would unite, which is very unlikely in the Discovery time frame, than it would be possible. But now I don't see a way how this can be achieved, since both Outcasts and Corsairs are more pirate groups than Houses.
@Praetyre: Sry man, but it looks like Discovery is going with the story that there were 8 sleeper ships. If Igiss believes it, I think it's going to be reality. As for the Atticus Rockford story...that's still open to speculation...
