The Nomads / K'Hara have a working tractor beam - it's just not the same as a human one.

The one you ***hard-skins : soft-minds*** have will work while you're flying around, and tractor stuff in from a long distance away while you're moving fast.

The one we have works at ranges of less than 300 meters, and you pretty much have to be sitting still relative to the target.

Thus, my Irra sitting somewhere in New York has two choices to refill - move to our 'secret' base (Tau 117) a few systems away, which is doable or just sit along a trade lane and shoot lots of NPC's. The advantage to shooting NPC's is that it ALSO allows me to tractor in assorted pilots / VIP's that I can trade for additional bots/bats when a player shows up.

I know nomads have that tiny tractor beam, thats why I said they have an unusable one, rather than "they dont have one".

It's not usable in open combat to bring in lots of loot - after all, since the K'Hara effectively have open season terrorist ID's, think about how much fun one of those would be. It's quite usable, though, to farm NPC's and their supplies of bots and bats. Is it a pain at times to do so? Sure - but hey, we're blue and we were here before you humans anyway...

But for most people the kiss-the-sun-teleport-home does not mean a 500 k cruise before you are in a zone of operations. That's what I find really really discouraging when playing Nomads. Fly 15 min through empty space, get cap ganked 3 mins. Gaming experience on Nomad indies is.... ye... just bad.

have to agree, I had a same suggestion yesterday on the nomchat. I would.. remove the lost battlestar in delta.. and replace it with some stationary duk. at least it gives a nice docking point for nomads then. Or well place something within kappa.

Do nomads.. dock on other Duks? I wonder how that would work...
Though I have no idea about that so bleh.. Except that WHERE do they dock on the duk? Inside through the outer "skin"?

Okay, that's almost a visual that we really, really don't need to imagine.

Does give a whole new meaning to the term for friendly fire, though - blue on blue.

And realistically, if you're an indie - welcome to our world. This is something that we've had to deal with for a long time, especially out in the Lonlicrons - it can take a while to get anywhere.

At least Khara can go to Chester and Wilde bases where porper systems are only a jump or two away.

Hi.

Re the Nomad tractor beam. I've got a (Omicron limited) Nomad char and just killed an Order NPC. I went right up to the pilot (2m away) and came to a dead stop. When I tried to use the tractor, all I got was "target out of range".

Any ideas?

Indie nommies have no tractor beam. You cannot tractor.

That'd be the reason, then ;0)
