Welp. As one of the few in TAZ with permission to fly our Persephone, I will say this.

A while back one of our members had requested the 4.85 model of the persephone. This one and we were simply told the following:

As much as the thought of being different variants, the thought would be denied outright by our overlords [The ADMINS].

Personally I belive that the Nephilim should be put into the SRP only ship category, and the 4.85 version be made into an actual warship, cause the Nephilim should be rare as [Retracted cause it would make Aerlem, Blodo, and Cannon, do the Three Monkey pose].

While the signature did not break any rules before, the lack of third party hosting caused your signature to take up over half of the page. Until the problem is fixed, I'll have to revert those images to links. ~Inferno

No, not the admins. Devs. As model lead I don't want a wildgrowth of unique ships for a few reasons:
- If everyone's allowed them they'll be short term gimmicks, players would lose interest in their toys after a while.
- Once you define a ship in shiparch, you can't get rid of it ever. Deleting things from the arch files tends to corrupt characters. We found that out back in 4.85...
- Every ship needs a salepoint. The FL engine allows for a maximum of 3 ships sold per base. Allowing a wildgrowth of uniques would require a boatload of bases in Bastille to accomodate those salepoints.
- Prepping a model (making sure all the textures are good, the internal components and texture names are unique, the textures are in a format the FL engine recognizes, sizing the model to the specifications of the balance guys, creating the hitbox, testing the hitbox, creating the loadout, testing the loadout) takes well over a full day if you do it right. Doing that so one person can have a special pewstick for a while... really doesn't appeal to me as a dev.

Ehhhh if I could respectfully disagree?
-Everyone is allowed the Neph and it's a very popular ship, and has been since I joined. This would be for everybody, not just one person. I'm not suggesting you bring it back as an admin-granted unique ship.
-What I was suggesting was just making another neph that is otherwise identical, just uses these other models. Okay, you'd have to put the turrets in different spots, but you could use the same hitbox and size the ship to fit it, couldn't you?
-Surely there are plenty of bases one could load these variants onto. They don't necessarily have to be shipyards. The Freeport in O74 sells a cruiser.
-A lot of us would re-buy our Nephs which might stimulate some activity.

Pls consider?

So if the devs are anti-unique ships, why are there still unique ships?

Kind of off topic, I'm pushing for making a previously unique ship non-unique and available for all, with stats as identical as possible to a ship we already have.
You're talking about giving everyone access to something else entirely, and I would appreciate it if you took that to your own thread rather than derailing this one and irritating the dev I'm attempting to butter.

Because they can neither be deleted, nor are they appropriate for open use.

Trogdor, Aet was specifically talking about the point that SMI raised.

Personally I'd feel that having two different Nephilim models would be unnecessary bloating of the mod. Find the one model you like best, talk to the modeller and have them submit it as the new model.

the ships can of course be removed. - the people who use them are just few - they simply have to sell them - once done the ship can either never be given again - or even be removed from the code.

most people who got unique ships did quite a lot of work themselves to have them by either building them, having them build and most importantly - asking the right people at the right time.

also - the old model is not coming back - disco must not to use it anymore in the newer builds. the new one ( i wonder why you guys care anyway - since most of you do not like it ) was given to the TAZ for the simple reason that ( except a few members ) they are a reasonable people who at least do not troll others ( again - except a few bad apples )

but for all thats worth - you can try the same thing the ppl back then tried. do all the work - jump all the hoops - and hope for a positive answer. dreygon was not allowed to get the necrosis for his brilliant RP, he was allowed cause he did most of the work or had people who volunteered to do the work. same for me, seth karlo ( when the barge was still unique ) also did all the work, so did zapp for the tundra.

they did not hang around the forum, making moronic sigs for "free all unqiue ships" and complain or insult others. thats the difference between ppl who whine and complain much and people who actually DO stuff. (well and you get people who do both)

@Trogdor: why does it not make sense to have another model? - cause zoners don t have the balls to stand up for what they have even now - so expanding their fleet, even if its just for the looks is really nothing that is appreciated. - also as i said - no rights to use it anymore.


tl:tr:

do the work for a unique ship, submit it - and when you get denied for a bad reason - THEN you can go complain. no matter your chances - if you submit work that requires a minimum amount of revision, it has better chances for sure. and if you are not a modeller, coder, skinner, hitboxer or id card writer yourself - pick one of the countless here in that community.

Well the "Hathor" Order Gunboat got replaced by 4.85... Well anyhow I was just curious if we can request to change it to its former model cause that one realy looked like something to fear, not that the current model is looking bad, the opposite it looks realy nice but the other one looks realy like something to fear. Also this wasn't a request for having the ship guys. There was nothing about a Nephilim in the Title, srsly I myself wouldn't like to see this falling into every players hand, I like unique ships. Unique ships give a different feeling in game, as example the TAZ and Phoenix, you can feel, hell yeah those guys did some SERIOUS WORK and they deserved it, seeing that unique ship approves the hard effort. Unique ships actually is special and gives a different feeling in game, its something like, you know those MMO games where you have to pay in order to have a unique ship, this one is just a different of course, here you actually put in effort with your Special Roleplay wasting great amount of time in order to get that vessel. Of course I also understand that too many different Special Ships would be a little too much Smile though I was talking about replacing it, but anyway. I know that currently the TAZ and Phoenix have an own Leviathan with serious RP and hard effort and connections, I just wanted that if I see a TAZ Leviathan or Phoenix, I'd like to feel that fear of that first model Big Grin cause it realy looks badass and the name "Leviathan class Warship" alike. The current model looks more like a Zoner Dreadnought instead. Well if thats the decision, of course I have nothing to add (bow) . Thanks for the replies Smile

Thats about as stupid as me bringing up the swear kick to escape fights, and having my thread locked, then a bunch of people doing it. Imports are to be purged, and the Old Persephone was fine, I expected better of Jinx.


Id also like to see several of the old ship models used, not neccessarily replacing the newer ones, just alongside them, variety is the spice of life.
