What on earth was that post for n00bl3t? Didn't seem to me to have any purpose aside from annoying people, and trying to goad them into arguing with you.
Ok... First time offnders on swearing. No leniency needs to be given, they did something explicitly against the rules.
OoRP weapon loadouts and that kind of thing need to be explianed to someone in game rather than just hitting the prnt scn button as soon as you see it.
Rule lawyering (especialy in system) is something that frankly should be punished really hard however. The "you fled now leave the system for four hours" speach makes me very angry, and it means the guy has read the rules and is just picking and choosing which ones to follow.
First time offenders are just as guilty, but they need to understand it first. There is -no- excuse for offending people and being rude when they try and help however.
' Wrote:I think you all missed the point. The reason I got banned is a misunderstanding, the OOC comment that I was banned for was not a OOC comment at all. What I said was completely in character, there was no OOC comment.
I imagine the player who had me sanctioned sent a screen shot with only the one line visible, because in context I was acting as a Zoner telling a fleeing terrorist to get out of the area.
Players automatically assume that I told the playing "get out of here because its server rules" when in context what I said was much more like "get out of my face terrorist!" or "you better run"
If you think that your sanction was unfair or not grounded, go through the appeal process, and if it was ungrounded or unfair, action will be taken to reverse the sanction. If there is no proof for your appeal, though, then all you can do is wait out your punishment with humility and come back to teh server and continue what you were doing as if nothing ever happened. Despite what some people think, the admins are not heavily biased, nor are they underhanded or corrupt, but they are simply doing their best to uphold the rules of the server with the evidence that they are supplied with.
[8:32:45 PM] Dusty Lens: Oh no, let me get that. Hello? Oh it's my grandma. She says to be roleplay.
[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.
I understand that, they are not a company or anything like that, they are just a group of people trying to run this server so there will be flukes and there wont be service.
I'll just let my lasers talk for me now, as it seems anything else can be twisted into a report to get you banned
JihadJoe and everyone else, you gotta realize I did not swear, I did not rule lawyer, and I understand all the rules.
What happened was a Phantom player got mad because I over powered him and so he took my statement "now get out of here you worthless piece of crap" and reported me as if I was flaming at him and rule lawyering.
Think about it this way, if you were REALLY in space REALLY fighting terrorists and REALLY being being a Zoner, you are going to say something along those lines to someone who retreats from you. That is alot different from "leave the system now its the rules" or cursing at a player.
To say "there is no innocence" or "admins are always right" is a pretty ignorant thing to say, of course they are wrong sometimes and of course there is sometimes innocence. If there was a screen shot of me cursing out a player or rule lawyering I wouldn't be upset I would understand I broke a rule and I would shut my mouth for a week. The problem is that thats not the case, what happened to be was a fluke on the admins side for not realizing that they were looking at role playing chat and bad sportsmanship on the Phantom players side for getting so easily offended, and not saying a single word to me like "thats a little offensive" or "that was a little harsh I don't appreciate it"
The admins have a job of banning and punishing people, when they get into the habit of getting on looking at screens and punishing for them, I understand how you can see that I was OOC rule lawyering or whatever because you see one line of chat out of context.
Its a bummer that some players are so soft that they get so angry about loosing a fight that they will twist a report on you to get you banned, its a game and people should be better sports about it. Terrorists and Phantoms more than everyone, if you are going to pick the factions that will be chased, hated and killed then you shouldn't be so sensitive to harsh role playing towards your character
Its a bummer that so many people on this server are rats that enjoy running to the forums reporting people, instead of working towards a better ship so you can go kill them later. I can't tell you how many times ive been dock killed by terrorist, harvesters or pirates or been rule lawyered after being killed by a player, or been cursed at by a player. It happens, instead of going report crazy like a child to his mom I make more money, get a bigger ship and go get revenge, its what makes the game so great I just wish other players would start playing the game and stop playing the report game (except for cheating and major violations of course)

If that is what happened, then I don't think you should have been sanctioned... Unless you used a word slightly stronger then 'crap'
If that's what really happened mate it's unfortunate to hear you got punished.
But, you know there's alot of people who come complaining about bans/sanctions and they're usually completely guilty.
If calling someone a worthless piece of crap in response to an In-Character event will get you banned or sanctioned though, then I'm not really sure if Discovery should be labelled roleplay to begin with. The setting hints at alot of dark, graphic content (drug smuggling, war, torture, just to name a few - all of these things are talked about in the gameworld, on news bulletins/infocards etc) and if a petty IC insult is too much for this community to handle then it may be wise to have the Dev Team have a closer look at what they really want Discovery to be.
I don't mean to make this topic drag on, or to make a big deal out of something that's obviously not, but if (and I'm only saying "if", since I don't really know what happened) a Phantom player can't handle something so insignificant then why was he chosen to be a Phantom? As far as I know Phantoms are chosen by ADMINs, yes?
I really don't mean to offend anyone or start a flamewar, but the thought of being punished for basically nothing is somewhat disturbing. 'Course, then again I've been here since December or so (took a long hiatus though) and I've never had any bad experiences with ADMINs, so..
Thanks Rparade its good to hear someone else make some sense instead of just assuming im a jerk player that whines about being banned. I agree with you completely.
I am not saying there is anything wrong with admins though, they do good work running a privately owned server even if i don't agree with their iron fisted methods.
I could understand an admin misinterpreting my statement to the phantom player as a violation of rules since they saw it out of context especially if its true that phantom players are chosen by admins, which must mean that they trust those players more that others, which is probably why the ban went through in the first place.
I just want to get back to playing already, its a bummer that I cannot get an admin to actually really talk to me instead of just saying they will get back to me on the subject, but i suppose I just mix in with all the people who complain about getting banned for good reasons.
Maybe ill complete the discovery wiki in the next few days lol
