PoBs, for me, reduced the number of miners, since most of them mine for the PoBs and the traders take them from there. I have noticed that, since I started playing at a time when the PoBs were turned off, and there were miners in almost all the parts

Also, it is true that mining gold is a pain now. My suggestion: Make mining and yield, same for all ores, atleast at one spot, like Niobium mining can give a X yield in T23, whereas Gold mining gives a X yield in Dublin, Platinum gives a X yield in either Nagano or Alberta. Make one such mining spot for all the ores, and lets say, keep the other areas that have these ores yield less effectively. But to balance those areas, let the sell points be closer, like in most of Gallia, where the ore yields are somewhat lesser compared to most of Sirius but the sell points are closer, which make up for that.

This can ensure that:

Miners can mine all the ores at the same rate, so we cannot have a talk of "this ore field is dead"
The prices will be balanced where the mining yields are low (apart from the main system, other systems will have a less yield but the sell points will be closer)
Increase activity in almost all parts of Sirius(if this is planned and executed properly)

That is it, for the ideas related to mining.

You've got a point I assume the next gen kiddos just don't play games like this anymore Tongue I think we're the last surviving Freelancers 8| The Last of Us, hey there is even a game about us.

An easier, and quicker fix is to create one selling hotspot for the mined ore.

For example: Make planet Denver start buying Uncut Diamonds for about 11-13K/ea. Do this...and you WILL see all sorts of miners start accumulating in the Omegas to start mining Uncut Diamonds, regardless of what the drop rates are. This will also lead to increased traders, piracy, lawfuls, BHs, etc.

And all of this requires just changing the sell price of ONE commodity at ONE selling point. Was this not the kind of thing that Mrs. Altejago is doing in the Commodity Event idea?

The 'Sairs and Outcasts had an easier way to go at each other. Daily Alpha/Gamma raids were the best. The Dublin Gold rush gave Mollies something to do, the BAF something to fight, and brought a lot of traffic through Bretonia. Rheinland/Liberty struggle in Texas, with between 10-15 caps on either side and several snubs going at it. The Order had a reason to be active, with Nomads, Liberty, and other things within their reach. Smuggling was booming, and it was a bit of an adrenaline rush. Avoiding capture from the active law enforcement people. Kusari had Outcasts moving through to get to Liberty, not sure why, but they went that way. It gave KNF indies and officials something to do. Server was constantly full, even on a downtime the lowest it got was 130. You had to wrestle your way in. 4.85 was better, due to lack of Buffer systems, bases, and it, in my eyes, was as close to the Original Vanilla Freelancer story, like this mod is supposed to be an expansion of, rather than .86 or .87.

If it were .85 again, I'd gladly come back.

EDIT: AND SOME MORE THINGS! The server was way more stable, the Tech chart didn't suck, Pirates actually roleplayed, Silent traders weren't a thing ( At least I didn't find one. ) People actually talked rather than went straight in to combat. The Newark huggers were a thing, The trade embargo for Rheinland/Liberty was enforced, by BOTH sides. Being a Corsair was fun, people actually appeared in Gamma which gave you something to do instead of constantly doing NPC missions. Bounty Hunters Guild Core was a thing that actually existed instead of sat dead in a cloud.

It also wasn't 4.87.

Dublin was a pain back in the days of late 4.85 ( t'wasn't that much back when the MR was still here , but after it fell... ) , everyone was raiding the place : tons of indies corsairs, BAF, BPA, bhunters, gaians indians, phantoms, and so on... and the miners were dying by pack o' twelve.

It was a hotspot, sure, but it was still a pain, and rp was not held high.Many might idealize that time.
At least, we had activity there.

To get back on the subject, back in 4.85, we had a lot of players, and therefore, a lot more good roleplayers.

- The absence of POBs and their products;
- The Corsairs and the Outcasts being closer;
- Less buffer systems overall;
- The absence of turret steering (what was balanced by Novas not doing shield damage to non-snubs; turret zoom is good, though);
- Mortar effects;
- I cannot complain about people, as they are not part of the installation;
- Probably something else, too.

Penultimately, it's just harmless research.

It's harmless, but also mostly useless.

Read the replies. Nine out of ten of the "reasons .85 was better" listed was that the community was larger and more active.

A few valid points have been raised but they're nothing new either. Outcast - Corsair krieging being such a pain in the rear right now is a real shame. Corsairs pretty much died off for quite a while, and now tend to krieg Bretonia when they do live. Outcasts mostly shot IMG. Shooting their "true" rivals was rare even when both sides had a (few) living faction(s).

.85 had silent traders. .85 had blue-happy one-line engagers. .85 had capspam.
It also had activity hubs, which Discovery has been lacking in for a while now.

Wat. Something that at least involves a margin of skill is a worse addition than what could simply be referred to as "Auto aim"? Nop.

I hate not being able to see things around me. Turret zoom allows me to.
Turret steering, however, tends to mess up fleet engagements. Everyone goes in the direction they prefer, while it is much easier to control if ships strafe instead of turret steering.
That is up to players, yes, as they can choose whether to strafe or turret steer, but most battleship pilots prefer turret steering for some reason.
Oh well. At least I have easier blues. I don't like mess, though.

195/200 server 85% of the time with 5-10 mins waiting time in order to have free spot to log on.
This made the people to play more fair and to avoid cheese moves because it was harder to switch ships using metagaming, the chance to wait out of the server instead was huge.

No cheesy bot feeding because of the old 10k rule.

Better ship-class versus ship class fights, specialized Caps loadouts. No auto aim zooming tools that got badly compensated with killing the cap anti-snub guns like razors and solaris.

Balanced trading system, transports were not OP.

I beleive that instead of thinking about the past versions, thinking about the current one and any possibe new ones, think about the future, Although what I get iis money making was a llot more funnier and easier in .85, and I beleive more RP opportunities
