What more proof do people need that this is method is working? See by spreading awareness like this much more money has been generated for finding a cure than otherwise would have been the case.

We all are guilty of something bad. But raising awareness in harmless way is not bad.

FYI. Almost every item you use on daily basis has been made by Chinese, Indian or Pakistani kid, even if it is labeled Made in USA.

On the other hand, kids are the only source of money in majority of the families that hit deep in poverty, this is why I oppose just simply getting rid of the problem by forcing companies to not to use child labor, because it means killing the entire family - unless government provide proper schooling and living standard, what is non existant in such families with working kids, for example.

YAY! USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO FORCE PEOPLE INTO DOING SOME STUPID TREND (even if the cause is good, the methods are still bad) AND THEN GUILTING THEM INTO DONATING MONEY FOR NOT DOING IT.

Gotta love society these days, using social media and peer pressure to raise money for a cause you would otherwise not even care about (sorry to say, but it's true).


Here's a crazy thought, how about encouraging people to donate to a cause because they actually want to, and actually care about whatever the cause is?

I refuse to let anyone or anything use guilt as a motivator on me when it's something I had no part of causing. As soon as you start using guilt or mind tricks (like sad music playing in the background to some sad pictures), I am officially against the organization using those methods.

Agreed. People are selfish by nature - but that's only because instinct is saying that YOUR family needs survival.

I didn't say the method wasn't effective, of course it's a working method because the majority of people in this world are stupid and easily manipulated into doing something, especially when it's a close friend causing it.


70 million dollars is 70 million dollars, sure. But instead of it being money people gave out of the kindness of their heart, it's money given begrudgingly and out of a sense of guilt and owing. That's not how charities are supposed to function.

Instead of people looking back on this in 2 years and saying "oh yeah, that was when I gave $100 to help ALS, I'm glad I did that", instead they will be saying "oh yeah, that was when -insert friend's name here= made me donate $100 because I didn't do that challenge... I wish I did that challenge, I'd be $100 richer now...".


ALS awareness will be looked at as a fad, rather than a cause people got behind together.

I was going to post something about all the things which are statistically likely to affect the average person ahead of MND.

I was then going to post about health concerns.

Then I was going to post about my farming friends who've been through droughts.

Obviously though, they aren't valid concerns because peer-pressure Facebook challenge yeah wooo.

Who cares if they're being 'manipulated' into giving money or not?
Money is being donated to a good cause and awareness for a disease is being made. Yes humans are stupid, but the world has been made brighter as a result.
